I intend to get leaner on several fronts: body: bodyweight reduction by 20 kg server: rebuild on BSD instead of Linux and reduce number of services running work computer: remove software and clean up structure free time: replace casual browsing in the evenings with intentional projects I learned in the past from experience with intermittent fasting that the best results sometimes don't require you to spend more time, more money, more whatever. They only require that you do nothing. No money, no time. There's a motto from the stoic school that I really like as a mental shortcut: abstine et sustine Abstain from things that are harmful, sustain the lack of things you're craving for the sake of good that you're seeking. Often sustaining and abstaining are just two sides of the same coin, such as when you're fasting. Sometimes, as in the case of leaning out computer, they are different as you sustain discipline and abstain from casual buildup of stuff. Actually, now that I think of it, they are still the same thing. Abstain from undisciplined use, sustain the disciplined one. Abstain from casual, sustain the intentional. Etc. Bloat, whatever it may touch, is the result of accumulation that is the result of abstaining from clear, intentional, rational and disciplined effort and sustained opposite over time. Bloat is that: accumulation of poor choices in time.
