It's a different mindset than the citizen. I prefer being a citizen, although I can't compare by direct experience. The procedures they go through on a large scale that modify, shape and change a person's outlook, personality, opinions about things are pretty drastic and, from a social engineering perspective, amazingly effective. = They pay well enough, although their healthcare is crap and nobody gets rich. Military is well-funded and, in a sense, "expanding the military" is strangely a form of social welfare. It gives people with no $$ somewhere to go, something to do. I can't say I necessarily _agree_ with military-as-welfare 'cause I don't - but I can see the reasoning behind it. ==
