I don't use Netflix myself so I can't compare personally. It
   could well be marketing hype but I've seen them pulled up in
   companies utilizing "good practices" for testing reliability.

   often throttle Netflix because it's so bandwidth intensive so
   it's hard to get their POV from all the way where we're at as
   it's kind of in the land of "he said/she said". [ISP blames
   Netflix, Netflix blames ISP] === Their history with cloud was
   initially very spotty. They continued following the older model
   of supplying their own cloud services when most others had moved
   on to AWS and the like - but thanks to that, they survived when
   AWS outages failed others who were early adopters. But thanks to
   an early incident in their own servers back in 2008/2009, I
   think they learned well. Now they've gotten rid of their
   proprietary cloud servers and run strictly off the cloud - not
   their cloud but AWS..

   Considering the massive impact they've had (I never expected
   it), there's a lot of lessons-learned, both good and bad and I
   think they taught AWS and others a thing or two in what they can
   improve and it seems they have. Then again, I could be wrong
   about all of this. Perhpaps their total cloud commitment is
   simply because it's cheaper to outsource and their customer base
   is big and strong enough where they're not likely to lose
   customers anytime soon, no matter what quality of service they
   provide. Honestly, I don't know. I have DISH, so. == Indeed.
   It's not my area of expertise either; although I'll go to one of
   those 'is site up?" sites, change my DNS, do a tracert, when I
   try to troubleshoot when I get issues with connectivity to
   online services or sites. I mostly care about the route from
   them to me and me to them, whoever the them happens to be smile
   emoticon Oh and Youtube. Ugh. Yeah. Only viable game in town for
   what it does. I use and enjoy it but I'm honestly glad the FB is
   doing their own content delivery for video streaming and other
   sides are also hosting their own videos... AND that google video
   search is now just as likely to pick up videos from non youtube
   sites... whereas at one time Youtube = Google videos.... ==
