News that people watch encourages advertisers to place their
   products on their stations for millions of dollars, which pays
   for the news you're watching. I try to stay away from the news
   because I don't like how this affects the "important news"
   selection process... how they portray things, etc. I happened to
   be in a diner this morning when I heard about this story on one
   of the TVs. * it's hard to not have an opinion of some kind when
   something like this happens in the way that it's portrayed on
   the news. I fell into it too, but I'm hoping by not using his
   name, I don't increase his importance to Google searches and
   such.* It's not much of a difference, but it's something I can
   do.
