Seedy Johnson Yes, although we have a very long way to go. Although... when you think about it... * The PRODUCTS of the synaptic activity are _exactly_ what we are putting into a computer *now*... simply by typing here.. posting pictures... etc. * The EXPRESSION of synaptic activity easily resides in computers, books, movies, actions, products in the world. * So... we're already on computers. There's even Shakespeare quote generators which can take what is, effectively, a portion of Shakespeare's internal algorithms for generating prose (or a decent facsimile of it) to effectively cause his brain to live again, in a sense. * I guess we're trying to accomplish what we already accomplish now but with a bit more of the raw unprocessed data. * Theoretically, with a good-enough approximation of the processes we could effectively create a human brain within a computer... but again, it wouldn't really be anything we're not doing already, as the products of our labor (such as making, programming computers, using them, what we put on them, etc) - ARE already disembodied synaptic activity, frozen (or repeating or generating) yet no less valid because it's not happening "in someone's head". * So, we're really doing what we've always done, just from a different perspective and calling it 'new' when we work on AI. Maybe.
