There's other ways than pulling triggers and cleaning up messes. It's a thing called planning. Rollout plans. 1 month, 6 month, 12 month, 2 yr, 5 yr, 10 yr, 20 yr goals. I know that shoot, kill, clean up mess is the 'Merukin way but to me, with all the information we have at our usage, ... all the psychology, all the philosophies, all the organizational management knowledge, all the sociology, we still use the model of shoot, kill, without knowing who pulled the trigger, , not understanding the gun, not understanding the nature of the bullet, (it's usually buckshot without a shell - and it likes to SPRAY far and wide) - and not knowing who the intended victim is or who actually gets shot until long after a _new_ idea comes along, and then a forensics team comes by and picks apart the mess and retraces everything. It's our way and how we do things as a country. But we could do things better. I want Common Core to work. But I expect a future report to say, "Where Common Core went wrong" to be written around 2035 and a new whiz-bang 'gonna fix education' concept is being rolled out. Now I know most predictions of the future are wrong and I expect mine is likely to be wrong as well. But it's hard to ignore the tendencies, the patterns, and seeing where things led in the past and where they may lead in the future. Poor implementation can kill a good concept, and usually does. We get stuck in the theory and say, "well, reality will soon conform to our theory perfectly", but it rarely does. Maybe it'll be different this time, and I hope it is.
