I agree with you 100% about the memorizing vs learning!* Great
   choice by the way - music theory is an awesome field.* I had
   thought once of doing music therapy, becoming a psychologist,
   ended up going into computers and did the office-work thing for
   a while and I was good at it. I took a long test to see what
   career would fit me best.* Numbers 2-5 were things like
   Psychologist, Coach, Guidance Counselor, Minister/Priest/Rabbi -
   all of them no surprise to me, as I _could_ easily do any of
   those things.* But the one that came up first was very specific:
   Middle School Special Education Teacher.* It includes both
   people that are called "slow learners" and also people who are
   called "Gifted". In other words, people that "don't fit" in
   regular school but have to manage the best they can in the
   system.* I believe that even "normal" students don't fit in
   regular school but manage the best the can and, if they're
   lucky, they're able to thrive in that environment.** I did well
   in school and on tests, despite the crap I had to go through
   there as well. The good thing about all those types of careers,
   is there's no time limit as there is in some careers.** I mean,
   yeah, there's death but besides that, age isn't really a factor
   in those types of fields. I think you hit the nail on the head
   with school there.* I first found "something wrong" about school
   when I was about 7 years old and I noticed it ever since.* I
   fully expected it to be improved by now but nope, it's the
   same.* Technology is an improvement but all the things that were
   wrong with it are *still* messed up.* Oh well. Thankfully most
   of us manage to get through and ppl like Vsauce are around to
   take care of all the stuff that school misses.
