I like hope. Hardened hope becomes certainty, so some people who believe that they're "hopeless" are actually *full* of hopes that they're now certain of - whether they're true or not. I consider a congealed hope to be somewhere between "taking something for granted" and "certainty". I sit in my chair. It's going to hold me up. I don't hope it will, I'm certain it will. Or, I take it for granted. I can be sitting here, considering my hopeless life, not once thinking that the Pauli Exclusion Principle could suddenly fail and I'm suddenly going through my chair, through the earth, towards the center.
