One of these days I will expound further on the Leaky Triangle notion; I don't know if it is ideal, but I'm not searching for an ideal, but a mental metaphor that can brng together a multitude of diverse things into a a single metaphor, allowing my mind's computational machinery to compress vast amounts of knowledge into a much tighter compression ratio, affording my mind more room for different, yet unknown by me, metaphors of complexity. (and room for the nick-pickity details that ppl often spend lifetimes debating about). >.< was an image that I kept writing down in my notes.* It serves a number of things; started out as "the focal point" - the > is the inner mind, the < is the outside world.* The . is what's inbetween. The . is what I was interested it; the fuzziness that occurs when something is FLIPPING when going from convex to concave (when looking in a magnifying mirror for example). Loops became prominent.* Then I discovered "Double Loop Learning" - and I saw that loop in everything - from patented systems, to various methods of learning and knowledge discovery; (both scientific and engineering methods had theirs); I saw it in all kinds of iterative modes; I saw it in the Triode,... so many places it showed up; the double loop was everywhere. I even collected some hastily drawn together notes and visualizations on [1]http://system-of-systems.com/ - not as conclusions, but capturing some bits of the leaky triangle for myself; yet publically; I allowed myself to get blasted on physics-forum so i could learn from the barrage of criticism that I knew I would receive; and I'm grateful for it.* [development stopped after my thrill of finding Wolfram; making a grand announcement that "I've found it!" and then ... disappointment when I understood the limitations of Cellular Autonoma.* I, yet again, had stopped too soon. Embodied Cognition has had the greatest holding power for me; Like with other things, I seek to find out where it falls apart, as I dislike the disappointment I feel when I find "it" - the something that I can champion; and then realize its fatal flaws. It's a hard one; it puts into question how we've been taught to think about ourselves since Aristotle and even Plato; the very NATURE of "what is an ideal?" and its inherent flaws goes into question; and; actually puts us where we are: human beings living on a planet, with fascinating machinery for computations; but we are not just our computational machinery. Yes, taking notes of my every thought as it passes; it is so revealing; it is not tied down to ANY external 'thing' BUT is ascertaining something NO ONE ELSE IN THE UNIVERSE CAN DO: "What am I thinking RIGHT NOW, in this 6 second frame before the thought disappears?" "How is it significant to me?" "How does it tie into EVERYTHING I've ever known and can recall; and everything I can PROJECT for a set of FUTURE CONDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS; based on a collection of deep past knowledge? In other words: my perspective. Where my NEAR PAST (what I was just thinking about a few seconds ago) is compared with my DEEP PAST. And... one revelation that works for me: The FUTURE is but our past, REFLECTED IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.* Because: If you take a timeline of our thoughts, we are ALWAYS in the past. Even the present moment can only compare a past thought; even a very near past thought.* References Visible links 1. http://system-of-systems.com/
