What did I learn about devs during these hype cycles? I'm thinking about blockchain, NFTs and AI. I was also present at the tail end of the hypes that came before, like cloud and microservices. - At least 2/3 of devs go for the hype for FOMO, sometimes openly stated. This seems to be bigger on crisis periods like now, and it's in part justifyable by the nature of the work and the way technology works. - A lot of devs go for a cynical/nihilistic route. The world is already shit so they're in for the technical challenge and/or to make money in a greenish-field or to get a promotion at work. Even knowing that the supposed solution is shit. - A lot of them accept acritically fearmongery and media manipulation by CEOs that generate bombastic headlines that are mostly lies or vastly exaggerated. I'm sure there are more things and I'll get back to this, these are just some first thoughts.
