Transcending Generations

   Each generation seems to live to shock the previous.  
Once we get to the older generation we are appalled at the 
irreverence and immorality of youth.  Each generation seems 
to struggle to make changes to culture and value and somehow 
perceives their effort as innovation.  Often this change 
attacks the foundations of our belief system, yet the Word of 
the Lord has shined through for centuries and for millenia 
while cultural innovation has vanished.
   When I look at the powerful force of youth, often untamed 
and undisciplined, and see the weakening influence of the 
elder generation, I mourn the loss of culture.  Human nature 
is such that it seems to want to rewrite history largely for 
political purposes.  I wonder how the Word of God will 
languish in this whirlpool of the generations amidst science 
and politics created by each and then I'm amazed at how the 
Lord's Word is rediscovered with each generation.  It seems 
the more this Word is put down the stronger it becomes.
   At times, the Word almost appears to vanish.  Then a 
powerful rush of humanity brings it back forth, sometimes as 
a revival, sometimes as kindness or sometimes as works.
   Military and political forces prevail.  They rise and 
fall.  Humanity is far too complex to define and religious 
factions rise up to both condemn and reaffirm, representing 
both sides of right and wrong good and evil.  Religion is 
sometime so subdued by political cultural forces that it's 
face is only allowed to be shown when it condemns in support 
of those forces.  That which we thought was our religion is 
not - thereby the most implorable way to bury this belief 
system.  Then amazingly a new generation rediscovers this 
valuable message of eternity and rebuilds the good that we 
thought was once lost.
   Think of how the goals, aspirations, desires and work of 
each generation was so easily forgotten and then lost.  Then 
consider how the Judeo Christian message has transcended the 
generations.
   I am in awe at how the Lord has transcended generations 
with his message.  The Lord's message is truly eternal.
