2025 phlog ========== 2025-12-01: Just finished up TNNT (tnnt.org) and it was another fun tournament. Playing seemed harder, but was still fun. My last game was great. In one game I ended up with a "master mind flayer" as a pet. Those things make a great pet, they can kill anything! Will have to go play more, last year was too busy to spend as much time as I would have liked to get ready. Wait till next year! 2025-11-18: Interesting day, Cloudflare is down and many sites cannot be accessed. But Gopher Holes are working great! 2025-11-06: Issues with the Dillo Gopher Plugin on NetBSD and OpenBSD have been corrected. Just note, if on a BSD, you should use gmake to build and install. 2025-10-28: Update: issue fixed, the fixed version can be retrieved from the dillo home page. With dillo 3.2, the gopher plugin was reworked. The gopher plugin works on NetBSD, but on OpenBSD the compile fails. You need to these add includes to io.c to get the plugin to compile: #include #include #include and dpi.c needs to be updated, correcting the warning messages. Without these corrections, accessing some gopher holes will fail. With these changes, the plugin works for gopher. The gopher plugin's github repository: https://github.com/dillo-browser/dillo-plugin-gopher 2025-10-25: OpenBSD 7.8 came out, upgraded and as usual, so far so good. 2025-08-17: Updated most of my utilities, the changes mainly made the verbose option (-v) work more consistent between them. Plus I removed some bit-rot on the older programs. These will be uploaded to my repository by end of day tomorrow. 2025-04-30: Upgraded to OpenBSD 7.7, the upgrade went very easy. I was hoping this release would fix the Nvidia GPU heat issue on the Thinkpad W541, but no luck. Outside of that, networking seems much faster, that tends to agree with changes made to TCP, nice. 2025-04-15: On NetBSD I found out the termio issue with "tig". You need to set LANG to "en_US.UTF-8". Once that is done, tig works great. 2025-04-14: I saw an article about git 20th anniversary, in it it mentioned a utility called "tig". I decided to try it out. It is an awesome terminal utility that allows you to browse your local git repository. I know it works on Slackware and OpenBSD, but on NetBSD it has termio/termcap issues. 2025-04-12: It snowed a bit yesterday and today we got about 1.5 Inches (3.8cm). Been many years since this has happened. But over 30 years ago, getting snow in April was a somewhat regular occurrence. I am sure all the Climate Change deniers will say "but snow..." to feed their delusions. But today it did look pretty outside with the new-fallen snow! 2025-04-06: I found out git allows commit signing via ssh. Because of this I now use ssh commit signing instead of gnugpg on my systems. This is because pinentry, git and gnugpg does not work together on the BSDs. To sign commits on a BSD involves a rather complex workaround. This is due to issues with pinentry's paraphrase prompt by gnupg. Using ssh commit signing also corrects issues with using git on Emacs when running a BSD. Also from what I read, since ssh uses ed25519 as opposed to RSA, its signing hash could be slightly more secure than gnupg. They say setting up ssh signing is easier than gnupg, I found that not to be the case. To me, both method's setup have the same difficulty. 2025-03-04: It has been an interesting winter, it was rather close to the winters we use to get 30+ years ago, except no large snow storms. It was consistently below freezing. The lake mostly froze except for an area where the brook comes in. But since a bit after new years day, people were on it with snowmobiles and 4-wheelers. One day in February I took a walk on it also. Something I have not been able to do in at least 30 years. But the odd thing is, we did not have any real cold days. Usually in the old days, in February, we would have had a week or maybe two of temps below zero (-17C). I think the coldest it got was a 10F (-12C). Some people will use this year as proof Climate Change is not happening. But I fully believe these people have no understanding of how weather variation works. Yes, Climate Change due to Fossil Fuel use is a proven fact and has been known since 1979. The Oil Companies knew their product was causing warming in the 1950s, but chose to chase profits over the well being of the world. 2025-02-10: Since around New Years Day, the lake has been frozen except for a small area where a stream enters it. I have seen people skating and riding those small 4-wheelers on it. Talking to people, the ice in many spots may be up to a foot thick (30cm). This is the first time in many years the ice was safe. Still not as thick as it use to be decades ago, but at least we can enjoy the ice this year :) 2025-02-09: January was a bit crazy, took sick and decided to just hang and do little. All became good last week. My main concern since the New Year was avoiding Felon Trump show. I miss Biden when you all you heard about was results, not a crybaby and whiner on the news every second. $Id: 2025.txt,v 1.13 2025/12/01 19:30:53 jmccue Exp $
