## 39 Development I had a project in my mind for 2027...but you will see another one in a few weeks on the French Blog. It's not what I wanted to do, it's just what I needed to use, a tool... And it was also a way to explore how software are developed now... If you are fond of games, and especially retro games, you will see many and many version/covers/copies of classics like Pac-Man, Space invaders or Missile Command. Is it really useful to port them on an obscure and unknown vintage computer that is sometimes very difficult to emulate ? I don't know but it can be fun to do that as a challenge. But most of them are made with the help of AI, or with modern tools that have nothing common with how it was developed before. That's life. I wanted a tool for my own use...but after some tests, I was pretty impressed by the first result, or depressed...it depends. I'll explain why when all that will be finished. Our world is changing a lot and the way we are doing things to. Software development is so different from the 80s, 90s or even 2000s. The game of the past year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has been made by a small team with help of AI but also real people to design the characters, the background, write the story, etc. For me, typing code is the worst thing in development but I really love what has been made before that and what you have to do after that. So I don't see AI help as such a bad thing. The problems are long before that: How AI are made, are running and what is the business around that. AI in development is just another step and will change as software development has changed during 7 or 8 decades. I told that sometimes games of the past seems ridiculous now, with a very simple BASIC code for "modern" eyes. But everything was different at this time, as it is different now. I wrote also a post on how to evaluate retro games and compared it to how we are evaluating vintage movies. But as a quite old guy, I'm also evaluating new ways of development with my old fashioned look. Old fashioned doesn't mean "has been" but sometimes you have to look at that with a step behind, ... Pro vs. Cons, and that was not an easy thing this time. I managed to do what I wanted to do in only 3 days...and pushed it forward again and again. Now I'm asking myself if I keep it for me or not. You'll see my answer pretty soon, because after 3 days, all was not as simple as it seemed.. 2DÉ› => mailto:icemanfr@sdf.org Comments by mail or by a reply on your blog
