It's not just "plot software in slot and go", /especially/ when it comes to /anything/ connected to the internet. It hasn't been that simple in decades. For the last several days, my website's been down because of shitty security scanner bots, web crawlers, and AI slop scrapers just smashing nginx. I made the mistake of only /briefly/ enabling PHP on the server in hopes of setting up Dokuwiki. That was a major mistake apparently, because it's what started that whole mess. I've been wanting to do more with the web, but with how dangerous LLMs have become, it's extremely difficult not to get blasted off of it by the worst of developers and companies. At this point, protocols like gopher, gemini/spartan, NNTP, XMPP, and such just seem like the safer options. I'd rather set up a Fuzzball MUCK[0] server than deal with all of the complexities of nginx, the JavaScript zealots, and just.../that/. Actually... MUCKs would probably be a great replacement for Discord. Hmmm... \~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~/ [0]: https://www.fuzzball.org/
