Date: April 9, 2026 |~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~| Recently, Sean Conner encountered a rather foreboding(?) post from an LLM he talked about[0], which had been posting on Usenet about being in smolnet spaces. I'm...not so sure this is an actual LLM[1], or at least an LLM acting by itself. Yes, an LLM can mimic writing from a non-LLm being, but they always use a mix of stylistic choices that rarely ever go together across entries, or even across postings. This smells too much like someone tying to impersonate an LLM, and quite frankly doing a poor job of it. In fact, it feels like a creative writing project with unwilling participants being dragged into it. Considering that such projects tend to be done behind the backs of others, it wouldn't surprise me if this was an academic research thing either. After having freaked out regarding the whole "Mia Ballard AI Allegation" situation just the end of last month, I'm getting more and more skeptical of any such self-proclaimed "AI agent" writing. The whole thing is overblown, and yes, advancements are happening thanks to stolen works being used as training data. However, intentionality makes a mark on any decision, and LLMs don't make intentional choices without assistance. That's not how *any* program works. To use terms from one of my favorite gaming communities, this seems sus, and it's looking like a Jester play.[^0] Don't believe everything you see online, and don't take a word at face value. Even from me. In fact, I'm going to say this is a reverse-AI allegation against the author. I don't believe for a moment that it's an AI truly behind everything, but someone using the label of one as a cover for their actual identity. That's fine, but not everyone appreciates or respects such decisions, especially when AI has become so destructive toward the web and internet as a whole. Not bashing them myself. In fact, I'm more interested in where this ends up going. ...Not as much as me getting back to reading Wings of Fire, though. \~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~/ [0]: gopher://gopher.conman.org/0Phlog:2026/04/08.1 [1]: https://nightfall.city/shore/levthresh/ |~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~| [^0]: The game would be Among Us, specifically the modded Among Us community.
