/~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~\ Title: Uncomfort Date: March 26, 2026 |~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~| Tonight, I saw a screed that made me uncomfortable. Wanna know what I did? I moved myself away from it, and let the words drift from my memory as if they never existed. Why? Because why should I let some random person on the internet live rent-free in my head, when there's far more useful information I could store in that space? Am I going to call them out, link[^0] to their angry scribblings, and send a mob after them? No. There's no need for me to do such a thing. To quote Final Fantasy IX: "To be forgotten is worse than death." Let them shout into the ethernet, where no one really cares. I understand why many people get afraid any time someone goes on a rant about something. Social media beats intense fear into you because of followers and mob mentality. I /still/ live with an anxiety disorder because of trauma I experienced both first-hand from mobs, and in watching the mobs attacking other people. They can be legitimate threats to not just your mental health, but to you in a physical sense, and your livelihood in some cases. There's been too many examples of that happening across Twitter, FaceBook, BlueSky, and even the Fediverse. It's why I left social media so long ago. The smolnet and indie web are different, though. There's no mob hunting you down, and most people don't care beyond, "meh, this person isn't cool," before clicking on to the next link of interest. Their words mean nothing in the long run. In many ways, neither do mine. I rarely actually read anything on gopherspace anymore, as there's definitely a tilt toward heavy political talk and activism, and I don't have the mental energy to deal with that while also handling my own life. Same with gemini and Usenet. The RSS feeds I follow are heavily filtered and curated for the sake of my own health, and I check them maybe twice a day unless I'm expecting something from one of them. Then I'll check a third time. Admittedly, I don't check my email very often anymore, either. On that note, a thank you to dweller/dwlr for the kind words in your email. Apologies for not getting back to you, but I've been losing track of time and tasks a lot lately, and if I don't say it now and here, I'm gonna blank again. I do appreciate the feedback and response. All that said, I'mma head offline for the night...day... thing. I've got things that need to get worked on, and some ideas to try. I'd be working on a second kandi bracelet[^1] to practice, but thoughts come first. \~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~/ [^0]: No, I won't say even in private, but their anger is on display in Gopherspace. That's all I'll say. [^1]: Peace. Love. Unity. Respect. <3
