This Gopherhole will be my journal as I stumble my way through learning cybersecurity. It is intended to be my workspace, my notebook, and my index of ideas that have survived contact with practice. It will probably highlight the failures even more prominently. The structure is simple. The journal will contain chronological technical notes, experiments, and discoveries. Start Here collects a small number of synthesized lessons-learned. A separate section evaluates training and coursework once it has been tested against (my) reality. The emphasis throughout is on problem solving and practice, practice, practice. Learning by doing. It is an attempt to think clearly, slowly, and honestly about systems and security. The author comes to cybersecurity from an analytical background outside the technology industry. That prior work informs how problems are framed, but the technical answers will be new and hard fought. Let's begin!
