F6K'S DOS JOURNAL, BITMAP DRAWING PROGRAMS September 13, 2026 This file is going to be quite short. I'm just using it to keep track of the drawing applications I've found for DOS. I previously mentioned Kid Pix (1991), which is really good for little children. Since then, I've found others, each with its own charm. Paint Misbehavin' (1993). - A lot like Kid Pix but slightly less user-friendly for small children; meaning the design isn't as well-tailored for them. Still, it's a good program to have if Kid Pix doesn't work with the child or the computer for some reason. The Musical Paint Brush (1992). - It is a simple drawing program. All the basic functions are present but nothing appealing for small children. Could be good though for older ones? Ok, from now on, all the next applications aren't well designed for being used by small children (like my 4 year old son). But they will certainly be interesting for when he will be older. Deluxe Paint (1985). - A very well known program to draw on the computer. I've actually tested Deluxe Paint II Enhanced (1989) and it is very intuitive and you can clearly do a lot with it. I guess it is a must have? (at least the 1989 version I've tested). The Graphics Studio (1988). - A direct competitor to Deluxe Paint. The interface is different, but you can do more or less the same things with it. I didn't like it quite as much as Deluxe Paint, though I suppose that's a matter of taste. It is worth noting that the program's output format is the same as with Deluxe Paint (PCX). GrafX2 (1996). - You will notice the leap in time; almost ten years with The Graphics Studio, and some years too with Deluxe Paint II Enhanced. And it shows! Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my DOS station (I still don't know why), but I was able to run it briefly in DOSBox. A very, very good program. I haven't yet lost hope of getting it running on my system.
