Tacker: bob (Bob) Subject: University Computer tech morons Date: 03-Dec-03 15:43:51 Our department PC's are all dual boot RedHat / XP pro ... unfortunately, the RH in question is 7.3 which has *never* been updated in 2 years, but at least it's possible to use them to do work on, because the MCP technicians obviously don't understand them and have left them in the default configuration. Yes, that means with a crapload of services running, a significant number of which have been remote rootable for over a year, and super up-to-date browsers for our web development class like, you know, fucking Mozilla 1.0 and Nutscrape 4.7, the latter in which no perfectly standard Javascript works properly that any semi-modern browser handles fine. But, at least we can do work on them. The XP installs though ... well it seems those dipshit MCP's learned all about poledit.exe on their How to Become a Super Leet Admin in 4 Weeks course so they like to use it as much as possible. So we're expected to do JSP / servlet development despite not being able to fucking *right click*, not having any editors other than notepad, not being able to open c:\ in explorer for god's sake despite needing to get at the Tomcat files in C:\Program Files ... this I remind you is on the department PC's, not the general use web-surfing ones which I can accept being stupidly locked down. They won't even set the environment variables up properly for Java so we have to run a little batch file every time before anything will work. Why?? Of course right-clicking in XP is a serious security risk, whereas a thousand unpatched OpenSSH daemons (amongst others) waiting to be owned is just fine. They really are morons. Once I found some retarded worm on the windows network that pretended to be ICQ, I went and told them about it ... and I had to explain to them what a worm was. ARGH THEY ALL MUST DIE Bob
