a double rainbow february 2nd, 2001 One hand on the wheel, and the wheels on the road. Traveling down 11-E, going home. The sun's in my eyes - and I can't wear my sunglasses anymore, because I'm always wearing my *actual* glasses in order to see better to drive, so I'm pushing the sun out of my face the best I can, and listening to the radio. And I see a rainbow in the sky. A small rainbow, slightly bigger than the sun. Created by the light reflecting off ice crystals in the atmosphere - we had studied about it in astronomy. On the other side of the sun, another rainbow. A bit smaller than the one on the left, but there none-the-less, in this rainbow-sun-rainbow pattern that I was driving straight towards. The sun shifted direction in the sky. It does that, in the late afternoon. The light from the right-side rainbow slowly started seeping over to the left one. The right rainbow vanished - but the rainbow on the left was brighter yet. It became long and luminous and started reaching toward the ground. It was pretty incredible. And then, of course, I picked up photographs. Hee. All these presents are mine! Hey, Mom! Wanna see my tonsils? Yes, she's actually wearing a hat in this picture. Mmm. Red plastic fruit. Hippos Go Berserk, part one. Hippos Go Berserk, part two. Hippos Go Berserk, part three. Ash plays in the floor. Honey, that's not really what drumsticks are for... All dressed up and nowhere to go. The full shot... ...and the closeup. Aisling wrings her hands. Baby shoes! I love this face. Later, Ash continued to take my hand and pull me into her room. Where she would make me pile plastic rings on the top of my head and do slapstick comedy with my hair until she laughed uncontrollably. Then I built a masterpiece out of her stack-and-build schoolhouse, a palm frond lego piece, a plastic ball, and my initials in wooden puzzle pieces. Which, she promptly knocked down. :) And, that was my day.
