imaginary telephone calls august 3rd, 2000 okay, i don't have a whole lot of time to write in my journal tonight, but i'm having one of those i'm-totally-in-love-with-my-baby moments, and i simply had to share. she's been sitting here in the floor for the past half-hour with her little toy phone, picking it up, dialing it, letting it ring, putting it on her shoulder, and then having imaginary conversations with imaginary people on the other end. and as if picking up the reciever and jabbering away wasn't enough, she'll pause and "listen" to the person on the other end of the line, make facial expressions and hand gestures, just as if she were having a real, honest adult conversation. then she would hang up, then pick up the phone and dial it again. the inflections in her voice were timed perfectly, complete with exclamations and mumbles in appropriate places. (i even think she was talking about me at one point - i overheard her saying "mommy")...it was simply amazing. she's simply amazing. and so damn clever. even though i think i'm going to have to take away her beginning lego blocks, because she managed to cram one of the smaller ones completely into her mouth this evening. i also wanted to appologize to about half a dozen people for not getting emails to them in a timely manner - i've just been covered in stuff, in not much of a letter-writing mood anyway. sometimes i wonder if i'll ever be completely caught up on my emails. but don't worry - it'll happen eventually. it may be a couple of months from now, but i *will* eventually get back to you! mum helped me to fix about half a dozen of my old broken cassette tapes tonight. including one i adored that my old penpal, vicki wilt, sent to me, and another theme tape i created based on the changeling role-playing game. and some stuff i have no idea what's on them. but we'll see. for now, i must run. in the words of the immortal wyld stallyns, "be excellent to eachother" and "party on, dudes.
