Capitalism's failing are not your responsibility. I saw a post on Mastodon today that has been stuck in my brain. Someone was bemoaning that they can't declutter because the effort involved in ethically disposing of all the stuff is overwhelming. Here is the thing. We as consumers have zero responsibility to spend our time and money ethically disposing of crap that was not ethically produced in the first place. Fuck that. If it's convenient to recycle or make a thrift store run, go for it. Otherwise, send it to the landfill and use the time and effort saved to do something actually productive. Your stuff in the landfill is so inconsequential as to be meaningless in the overall waste disposal issue. Consumers can't solve systemic problems. We need government to force industry to take responsibility. Don't take that responsibility on yourself. That is what they want.
