Well...I am still alive. Almost forgot about my gopher space. Recent events include purchasing a Thinkpad from Lenovo and using the debian installer from goodbye-windows.com to install debian from the default OS: Vista. Worked like a charm. I didn't know Vista came with a boot manager (bcdedit). I was able to change the timeout option which was what I needed to choose the debian installer. I chose whatever default option was given by the installer. Prior to installing debian, I tried to shrink the Vista partition. The harddrive size is 80 gigs. I was able to shrink the partition by 50%. But even though there was another 30+ gigs in free space I was not able to reduce it further...I tried to defrag it but that only allowed me to shrink the partition by 1024 MB. Anyway...after moving my data from my desktop computer, I decided that I was going to get away from windows so I reformatted the windows partition. It now hols all my media. The Thinkpad is the R series (cheapo that I am) and is my very first laptop. So I am hoping it lasts awhile. Oh..the other thing I spent time on was trying to find a wifi scanner thingy. I found wifi-radar...but since there aren't any signals here (per the windows scanner which I used prior to installing debian), I am not sure if it works or not. I am thinking of taking the laptop to the library where there is free wifi to test wifi-radar. And that is all the news from me for now.
