Our daughter was having a great time speeding around the house. I would help her steer the walker whenever a turn was required or an obstacle needed avoiding. Eventually her brother got involved as well. He had his walker, and our daughter on hers with my help. Two little zoomies zooming round the house with smiles, and shouts of excitement. I think it all really ramped up with a trip to Costco on the weekend. While our family was in the store, and I was looking for food items to add to the cart, my wife stopped with the kinds in the stroller in an isle next to the cart. I was darting in and out of isles gathering items. I returned to the cart and I see my son with his sneakers next to the flatbed cart, re-organizing some of the items. He seems to love this. Our daughter who isn't walking yet sees her brother doing interesting things. She points at him gesturing to be let out so she can do what he does. I tell her, not yet, not until you are walking... I don't want her crawling all over the Costco floor. Eventually I put my son back in the stroller, and moved the cart to the next area where I was gathering food the items we need for the next couple weeks. Later that day in the park on bare feet on the crunchy grass, she stood up quite a bit. She took a step or two next to the stroller I pushed over so my son can explore the wheels. She and I hung out and played with my hat and pine cones while my son seemed to try and figure out what stroller wheels do. The evening there were a few more steps before bed, but not too significant. Today (Monday), lots of excitement about our daughter taking more steps. By the time I got off work my wife and daughter were on the front porch and sure enough our daughter was practicing walking. She saw the lamps next to the cement path leading to our front door. Mom would help her up, and I crouched down held out my arms and encouraged her to walk to me. She did a couple times, then decided the lamp was far more interesting. Although her bare feet at the edge of the cement as she stepped off the edge dropped down three inches to the weeds, her footing slipped. But still she wasn't too discouraged. The neighbors mother (older woman) saw from across the street. "Looks like she is taking her first steps." The woman comes over to see the exciting event. I tell her "She took some steps on Mother's day but then something happened and she lost her confidence." The elderly woman was very excited to meet our daughter, and watch her enjoy the front porch and the wonder of the lamps, plants, and Gardner snake. Throughout the evening our daughter continued to try walking. Mom would call out to "Watch her!" my heart would leap out of my chest thinking someone is about to get injured while I'm cooking, and totally miss all the action. By the end of the night just before bed time I did get to see more of our daughter making progress on her walking. I think she is going to be a fast little walker. I hope she can move at least as fast as her brother so he doesn't keep taking the toy she has in her hand. Maybe she'll get a chances to actually understand it. Lately if I try to show our daughter how to use any item she has a hold of, she reacts as if I'm going to take it, which happens to her a lot due to her brother wanting anything anyone else seems to be holding. I'm really proud of her. She is one of the happiest people I know. I think her ability to walk will make her even happier.
