date: Sat 23 May 2026 10:30:17 PM PDT subj: the drawer in the kitchen ----------------------------------------------------------- The kitchen is a place in the home where a lot of work is done, Tools and things, like breakable glass bowls, glass measuring cups, glass baby bottles, knife sharpening stones, and all sorts of things are in the kitchen. There are also things under the sink used to clean the work area, and those breakable things I just mentioned as well as all the other dishes, and counter tops, stuff that if swallowed could be fatal for anyone, but some of us just can't help putting things in our mouth, all things, and throwing or slamming things around. I can't imagine what would have happened if the babes got hold of the bag of flower I use to make our bread every week, or a box of Morton's salt, or all the other things in the cabinet in the kitchen. My only vision is disaster. **************************** Shortly after our babes learned to crawl, the kitchen was the place to go. I understand, everyday from their perspective, what the kitchen might be. Its a place where mom and dad go to do things, things people do. They grab things, and pull on them, and those things change by coming out, then they take the most wonderful contraptions out of those places, they put them up high above were its hard to see what happens. The grabby things are to make clicks and ticks, and eat smells come from the pulley things. Mom and dad open little doors like the one in our room. Sometimes I see fantastic shapes in those doors, and mom and dad hold them and put them places. This is where the people like mom and dad are, therefore so I too should be here doing as they do. Look dad, I can pull on the smooth grabber and there are the things to do what people do! I will use my hands on knobs and make the food smells appear! ----------------------------- So I understand they must be in the kitchen with us, but they are not ready for it. All the stuff in the drawers and cabinets should stay in order, and some is just not fitting for little people just learning to use their toys. Right now toys are mostly throwing throwing them down, or smashing them on the short table, or banging on the window or any transparent wall, or some other place. One night after finding my son had gotten into one of the lower kitchen cabinets where he was attempting to play with the glass serving dishes, that was the indicator it was time to baby proof the kitchen. Baby proofing means; put little locks form the inside that requires a magnet that must be placed in the correct area on the front of the drawer, or cabinet to release the lock prior to it opening. The next morning my son and daughter venture into the kitchen and attempting to open the drawer, something just isn't right. **************************** Its stuck, but it makes a wonderful sound. All of them are stuck for some reason, maybe I should just keep pulling and pushing on them. They make a loud sound, I think I like. Hey the oven! Dad always gets excited when I touch the oven. When I touch the oven he talks excited to me. Its the best game, so I touch the oven again, then he picks me up and places me to the rug. I show him how fast I can get right back to the oven and do what we are supposed to do over here. I'll touch the oven again! Dad what is wrong with your face, don't worry I know I can touch the oven. He says doa TOUCH the oven, then he picks me up again. :) I'll get back there faster this time. --------------------------- This must be what its like, but as the Dad, my mind is get your ass out of the kitchen. I'm working in here, DO NOT TOUCH THE OVEN! He is a funny boy he looks waves his hand to make sure its operational as if its just waving around and happens to land on the oven, while looking at me as I'm saying "No don't touch the oven." After crawling became kneeling, then standing up, and all the while the cabinets and drawers have been tested. For months now they've been locked. **************************** Its kitchen time, mom and dad are there. They are opening and closing things again. Time for us to practice. Uh Oh something happened, .. hurry mom opened the drawer, and she left it open! So exciting look at all greatest things in there! Things I've only glimpsed at before when I could barely see. Test tubes, bottles, little tiny different colored cups, tops of bottle, fun things to chew on, a pacifier I haven't seen since I was young (8 months ago). About a hundred measuring cups all the same size from formula cans. Mom and dad are not shutting the drawer. We must take all of these things out, bite and lick test each one, make sure its correct. --------------------------- For an entire ten minutes the babes thought the open kitchen drawer was the best place in the house. All the small things to see, and chew on. Formula mixing cups, and bottles, bottle tops, about one-hundred formula measuring cups, breast pump diaphragms, nipples for bottles, bottle nipple cleaners. Then in an instant none of these things were as good as loudly moving the furniture across the floor. Will the kitchen drawer once again captivate the babes? We'll have to open it in a few days to find out.
