Our son smiled when I opened the door to drop him off at daycare this morning. His sister is looking more like a normal to us, her eyes less swollen, and little yellow green ooze flowing from them. Babes are strong resilient little people. --------------------------------------------------------------- So the saga continues with the sickness. As predicted our son got symptoms, sent home, we had to miss work, then right after he started recovering, our daughter caught the sickness he seemed to had, or maybe something a little different. Mom booked a trip to the pediatrician's office. A fruitless endeavour. She rushed to find a time, book the opening, and we expected something more than the doctor saying "They have a virus. If they get worse come back." We'll as the day progressed so did the symptoms my daughter was experiencing, although totally visible for the pediatrician to recognize. My wife with the concern of a mother, did a little of her own research that took less time that which was spent in wait for the doctor to see the kids in their room after the nurse checked us in. Peri Orbital Cellulites, my excellent wife sees on google. Greenish yellow oozing from ones eyes, a symptom of bacterial conjunctivitis (I have no idea the medical lingo). Nonetheless her frustration at 8:30 PM just before bed time. "Did the doctor tell you she had Pinkeye?" she asks. "No She didn't say much to me at all." Saturday our child is in pain and her eyes look a lot like she has been Stallone in the movie Rocky, puffed up, she can barely open them. Mom can't take it anymore her child suffering she's compelled to get a doctor to do something to help our child. A small huff and puff "Its google, stupid google says this. The doctor said she should get better on her own." Mom's instincts and concerns and knowledge from google urge her to the emergency room. "You take her to the emergency room, I'll stay here with our son." My son and I do normal things here while waiting for mom and sister to return. Mom and sister return, and sure enough its a different diagnosis. In my mind 'What now, google is smarter than doctors?' Turns out in this case yes. Our child was given antibiotic ointment for her eyes. So we have a task get ointment into child's eyes every six hours. Trying to put ointment in a child's eyes is a lot like trying to brush their teeth. The child hates having to do anything against their will. They tolerate having their diaper changed, and sometimes allow us to wipe their face after a meal, but this took a lot of training. Ointment is worse than tooth brushing. Our children cry and wiggle with all their strength to prevent their teeth from getting brushed, I dread every night having to forcefully retrain my child like a wrestler then force their lips above their top teeth against their strength and will to tuck their upper lip over their teeth. Its so ridiculous, and super easy to just relax and have their teeth brushed but they fight it with every stroke of the brush. Right when we say "OK all done." They are absolutely back to being little babes caring about some toy or something else. While my wife and I are left feeling like we've tortured our child in some way. Ointment is far worse, our daughter has to be wrapped up, one parent wrapping the child attempting to hold their arms in the wrapped blanket, and their head, while the other parent pries the child's, our daughter's eyelids open. Our child wiggles, cries, and frees a hand to block the tinny tube of ointment we don't have more of in her attempts to prevent us from putting the painless gel into her eyes. Such a traumatizing event. Tears spill over while mom holds our daughter as she cries, due to her parents torture of her. I feel like some alien abductor, 1 AM in the morning stumbling to grasp my wits, as my wife and I using high tech reading lamps beaming into our child's face to perform medical experiments on her in her sleep, when in actuality we are trying to administer her medication. Daycare with their protective posturing banning us from daycare so kids are protected from the spreading of illnesses, turns out to be the place my son was infected, my daughter was infected, I was infected by my children, and my wife infected. Both my wife and I sick, coughing, runny nose, unproductive caught, just feeling miserable, even though our children were banned for 48 hours. My wife with her superior immunity and strength took care of our children as I was a lump of misery contemplating if I will be like this for the rest of my life all day Saturday. Sunday I felt good enough to share in the load, but still feel ill, and hope to recover soon, I wonder will my wife and I be sick for the next year and a half, only time will tell. EOF 000095
