Reagan, under the guise of "DEregulation", disabled all the watchdog 
functions of the federal government, and REregulated them as lapdogs for 
large corporate interests. His "dribble on" economic policies disintegrated 
the middle class and local ownerships ("ma and pa shops", "hang your own 
shingle", "american dream", opportunities), and has redistributed the 
wealth so much that there's not enough discretionary income available to 
sustain the economy of perpetual growth.

That's my take on the poor sod. Here's another which I can heartily
