Distractions I really DO intent to write, y'know. It's the plan. But I have SO MUCH that I put off when I was working that some of it I want to come first. I say this because I am loaded up with distractions now. First we got a projector TV, and I was playing with that - it runs the Plex app, but apparently there are some video stream types it won't play, and rather than tell me that it just says "problem playing stream." Then I went and picked up a RAID 1 NAS that was SUPER expensive, but when I learned my 18TB hard drive had not survived the trip from the USA, I wanted to pull my data out of the cloud ASAP and I didn't want to wait around for something to be delivered. So we went to Lisbon just so I could come home with equipment-in-hand. Spent a day or two setting THAT up. Was very happy to discover that it has native, built-in Google Drive sync, not as happy to discover that the transfer rate on the NAS app is dog-slow. Like 30MB/s slow. So I spent another day figuring out rclone with Google Drive (don't ask) and it at least transfers at over 100MB/s. Unfortunately that requires my laptop remain running. Speaking of waiting for stuff to be delivered, I got my Mac Mini from a refurbishing place in France. SUPER happy with the result. Had to wait a week but it was just what I wanted at the right price. Then since I didn't have a montior I went and bought a cheap TV. Then I realized I didn't have a keyboard, so I ran across the street to the bodega and found one for a terrible price. So I have my NAS transferring some files directly, my laptop transferring more. I'm working on configuring my Mini as a Plex server. And then I might put Joy's old tablet on the projector TV and run the Plex app off of that. None of this is "writing." But much of it is stuff I've waited to work on for, literally, years. I mean, once I have my data copied off the cloud, there's an entire megaproject to SORT it, which I've been waiting to do for DECADES. But yes, I do want to write. Just have to figure ou the balance. But hey, we've been in Portugal for only one month as of yesterday, so I gotta cut myself some slack. I'm retired and I'm having fun, that's the important part.
