WeeGee Wayback Wonders One of my ongoing projects is editing down episodes of a Twin-Cities based radio show and storing them on my Plex audio player. WeeGee Wayback Wonders is a labor of love by John Pratt, a Minnesota deejay who has been spinning records since I was living in Queens. Nearly 60 years. Every week he puts together a three-hour radio show (!) playing all his own records (!!) and posts it online. He's approaching show number 200 (!!!). I didn't learn about it until I'd missed the first year, and that made me wish those shows had been archived somewhere. So of course I started doing it. Every week I download the show from their website and edit out the commercials (and sometimes particular songs that I don't care to ever hear again e.g. The Ballad of the Green Berets or The Streak). Then I put in on my Plex server and I can listen to the shows on my phone whenever I like. Every week he reads comments posted to their Facebook page by listeners. Recently he noted the death of Bonnie Tyler, who coincidentally lived in southern Portugal for 30 years, and who died just as we arrived here. So I noted that in his show comments and he read my comment last week. Last week's show theme was "The Periodic Table of Elements," with songs such as "Love is Like Oxygen" and "Hydrogen Atom." So I posted a comment to his Facebook about that theme... listen to the audio link on the next Gopher entry from this one! (Okay, this is just an experiment in posting audio links...) You can go to wdgyradio.com and dig around for the show. Their "radio app" is of course a barely-skinned web page, and a long time ago I scoured the HTTPS links out of it, so I access them directly off my laptop. The radio show file is replaced every week, so I grab it right after it posts. You can find my Google Sheet listing every show and every link to every weekly Facebook post at https://tinyurl.com/WeeGeeWaybackWonders
