PUB is an advanced and  powerful  documentation  and  publishing  tool
(from  Stanford  University).   Besides the usual capabilities of page
numbering, justification, centering, heading,  footings,  indentation,
and  underlining,  PUB also provides conditioned command execution and
text inclusion,  arithmetic  and  string  calculations,  and  embedded
source  files.   Other  features  include  columnar  output,  footnote
placement, index generation, table of contents  generation,  even  and
odd  page differentiation, automatic numbering of chapters, equations,
tables,  paragraphs,  use  of  cross  references,  superscripts,   and
subscripts.   PUB's  macro  language  is SAIL, a dialect of ALGOL, and
only  an  experienced  programmer  could  make  full  use   of   PUB's
capabilities,  although  a simple document could be produced as easily
as with the other document-generator, "RUNOFF".
