comment. I should have made it clear that human waste is not appropriate for
fertilizing food crops--only ornamentals. I will make a revision to the text
ASAP. One further word of warning: Regardless of what sort of fertilizer you
use, all fruits and vegetables should be washed thoroughly, just like our mom's
always told us. The recent apple juice escher coli scare in California was
caused by apples contaminated by fresh cow manure. Absolutly, I wash all my
vegies/fruits from the market in a beach solution. I am not convinced that all
the outbreakes of E.coli, hepatitis, etc have been cause by a simple oversight
of not washing the hands, vegies, fruits etc. For example the E.coli in the Cal
hamburger 1-2 years ago was traced to tainted meat, ok fine, where did that meat
come from? Mexico? I have watching several reported cases of hepatitus in
Arkansas and Oklahoma over the last two years, these case have been in fast
food, restaurants and schools. The first case started in Ar and the last was at
a Shoney in Tulsa. Sure seems funny that what they all seem to have in common is
there are all within 25 miles of highway 412, conspiracy? no, but Highway 412 is
a major road feeder from Tulsa east to Arkansas. Either the food is contaminated
or we have some extremly fithly people working in restaurants or both. QUESTION;
Its on the subject of using human waste for fertilizer for crops, is not this a
good way to spread dieases such as hepatitis and such? With regard to hepatitis,
there are vaccines for hepatitis A and B (so far as I know none yet for C, D, or
E). These are not pleasant to get (multiple IM injections, some post-injection
discomfort and they are quite expensive - consult your doctor). However, if
sanitation conditions ever deteriorate in a crisis you'll be glad you got the
shots. Your doctor can tell you if you need the hepatitis series or any other
vaccinations such as a tetanus booster, etc. (an ounce of prevention....) The
earlier advice about washing the veggies etc. would still be important to help
get rid of other organisms.
