Docs for Calendar program. Copyright (C) 1997 Scott Chapman. Version 1.0 BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This program keeps track of your appointments and todo items. I also use it to keep my phone list and other such things. It creates and uses two files: APPT.DO and TODO.DO. It can also use other files you specify. This how it keeps track of the phone list, etc. When run, the program displays, on the left side of the screen, the calendar for the current month, with the current day highlighted. It then displays the appointments and TODO entries on the right of the display. Finally it keeps the current time displayed at the top of the calendar. The program will automatically deal with the year 2000, correctly. It will display February correctly on leap years but does not adjust the date on the machine for you. You will have to do this manually. The program does not handle alarms or repeating entries. I don't plan to add this functionality at this time. USAGE: When you run the program, it will automatically create APPT.DO and TODO.DO if they don't exist already. You can press the LABEL key to see what the function keys do. Be patient. Press F1 for help while on the main screen. THE CALENDAR: You can arrow around the calendar using the regular arrow keys. If you arrow off the calendar it will either wrap or go to the month you arrowed to, as appropriate. Any time it lands on a new month, it will default to the current day. It is quite a hassle programmatically to fix this and I felt it wasn't worth the effort. Press the F2 key to return to today on the calendar display. As you move around, the appointment/todo list is updated as needed. You swap between the calendar and appt/todo list by pressing the TAB key. APPT/TODO LIST The APPT/TODO list is displayed on the right. The first 19 or so characters of each entry are displayed. When the list is active, you see a diamond by the currently selected entry. You can see all of the entry readerboard fashion by pressing the right-arrow key while it is selected. The entry will scroll by. You can press the spacebar to make the scrolling stop. Press it again to resume scrolling. Press ESC to cancel scrolling. The list will scroll a screen at a time if you arrow off it. ADDING ENTRIES: When you are on the calendar or the appt/todo list, you can press F3 to add an entry. It will clear the screen and ask if the entry is to be dated. This determines if the entry is an appointment or a TODO entry. If you press Enter, you will be returned to the main screen and add nothing. If you enter "Y" then it will put the date that you have currently selected on the calendar on the entry (so select the date first!). If you answer "Y" then it will ask you for a time also. If you press enter, then the item will have four asterisks in place of the time, so you can easily distinguish it from a TODO item, in the list. Then it will ask you for the text of the entry. Max length is about 230 characters. That should be plenty! You press Enter to end the data entry. DO NOT enter a comma or a tilde (~) in the entry! The comma will goof up the input and the tilde is used as a delimiter in the data file. The program will return you to the main screen. If you entered an appointment, it will be sorted at the top among any others for the current date. If you entered a TODO item (no date/time), it will be at the bottom of the list (you may have to arrow down a page or more to see it). There is no system for prioritizing/sorting the TODO entries at this time, only appointments. DELETING ENTRIES: Deleting an entry is simple. You just move the diamond to it and press the F4 key. The entry is deleted and you are returned to the main screen. CHANGING FILES: You can make a seperate file to hold any kind of data, from auto mileage and maintenance to phone numbers. Simplay make each entry one continuous line with a carriage return at the end. You can then load them up using the F6 key. POWER DOWN: You can turn off the computer any time by pressing ENTER on the main screen. When you turn the computer back on, it will resume right where it left off (except the top of the calendar will have a white space on it for some reason not worth chasing down). EXITING: Press F8 while at the main screen to exit. The fine print: This program is released to the public domain and shall remain there. You may modify it and redistribute it as you like. You may not claim copyright to it and thereby prevent current or future users from using it, commercialize it, etc. FEEDBACK: My e-mail address is schapman@lamplight.com. I HATE junk mail. Do NOT put my address on any junk mail lists and make sure if you write me that you put CALEN.BA in the subject so I know it isn't junk mail! I simply delete the stuff.
