A "standard" option for Booster Pak is a somewhat stripped-down WorldPort 1200 modem. I did manage to get into the system (CIS) using it today, but need help interpreting your message about the Q-PORT.100 program. I guess what I need is a detailed, step-by-step, "push this key..."-type explanation. For instance, when I go into Q-PORT.BA, all I get is an "OK" prompt. Is that correct? What do I do then, as far as writing my autologon sequence, accessing it in that program, etc? In other words, what does the program do for me? Is there a way to read an autologon sequence out of ADRS.DO, or somewhere else, so that it (or they -- in the case of multiple sequences for various services) does not have to be re-typed each time? By now, you know the magnitude of my ignorance -- but it sure is wonderful to get the faster transmission of data! I think I'll love this gadget, if I get some help. Put Q-PORT in the workarea (F1+F2 - I'll assume that you're working from the BP) Go into BASIC and type LOAD "Q-PORT[ENTER]. That will allow you to enter the edit mode for the line that needs changing. Type: EDIT 47[ENTER] You should have one line of the program now displayed in TEXT edit mode. There is only one character that needs to be changed and it is in the phrase ...THENQ$="0:" Change "0:" to "R:" Press F8 to exit TEXT and go back to the OK prompt. Exit the program and save it back to the Booster Pack. Now you should be able to leave your ADRS file on the BP. I hope you have downloaded W-PORT.DOC as well. It gives you detailed instructions on how to use the program. There is a lot to the program, but if everything is set up correctly, you should be able to just hit [CR], type in the address file entry that you want, [CR], then space bar. The program should take over from there and will log you onto the service that you selected at the Find: prompt. There is a setup menu that allows you to change the modem defaults, but for CompuServer, you shouldn't need to bother with that. Fm: Denny Thomas 76701,40 To: Joe B. 72527,1246 If you noticed, the STAT line in the setup menu doesn't have the baud rate displayed. You have to change baud rates at the main menu. Just key in 7E1E to change the balance of the STAT. If that is your default that you use most of the time, (7I1E is standard for CIS) then you can change it permanently by using the same general procedure outlined in the other message for line 42. ST$ is the variable that you want to change. Other bootup values are: CS$ = "ATDT" - Change to "ATDP" if you want pulse dialing most of the time. C2$ = "ATB1" - Change to "ATB0" if traveling abroad and using CCITT type data communications standard. R$ = "COM:5" - Change to "COM:n" where 'n' is a value from 1 to 9 indicating baud rate. Fm: Joe B. 72527,1246 To: DENNY THOMAS Using the Q-port.BA program, I get as far now as the listing of the number for the service I want to access. When I hit any key, to actually dial the number, though, I get a "Modem not connected!" prompt, and nothing further is possible, even though I do have the phone cord plugged into the modem! Any idea what's happening? Incidentally, I've decided to try this program first, with the modem, before trying installation of the X-tel programs, and will probably use the other one when I get around to it, which you said was best, anyway. Fm: Denny Thomas 76701,40 To: Joe B. 72527,1246 Well, the only reason that message comes up is if there is no power to the modem or the modem is not connected to the computer. Do you have the modem connected directly to the back of the M100? If you are using a cable, it should be one that has all lines connected straight thru. A null modem cable won't work. Other than that, you can disable the modem check, but that shouldn't be necessary. Try the modem with the supplied power adaptor attatched and connected directly to the back of the M100 and let me know what happens. Sb: #USE OF WORLDPORT Fm: Joe B. 72527,1246 To: DENNY THOMAS When you order the Worldport 1200 for use with the Booster Pak, they send you kind of a stripped down model, I'd call it. This one has no cover on it, with all the innards right there lookin' at you, and all you do is install it and its accompanying 9-volt battery right into its lil' ol' spot in the BP. In other words, I din't git no cable, or did I find anywhere on the gadget to attach an outside power adapter to replace the 9-volt. And besides, I've been USING the modem, right along, over the last two days, employing the commands "ATDTxxxxxxx" as you instructed. Is that not proof that the modem itself is working all right? Sounds strange to me. And I'm only plugging the phone cord directly into the female phone-type plug on the modem, which projects to the externa of the M102. And I'm not using any other cords, null modem or otherwise. Does the fact that I'm using the modem to send this to you indicate that all the four switches are set correctly on the modem? I really do appreciate your continued help in figuring all this out! When you first asked, you simply referred to it as the Worldport modem... there's a bit of a difference there. But hang in there, if anyone can get it working for you, it's Denny. The tiny little cable that goes to the RS232 port from the modem just doesn't have the connection necessary to make the program happy. What you need to do is delete part of line 13 starting at :IFINP(187)AND32.... to the end of the line. That should fix you right up. (boy, I hope Fill is making a thread of this!)
