                           -------------------------------

Welcome to the lock instruction manual! This is probably the most complex
part of the program!

Lock is a very simple utility. It allows you to secure a computer (running
in DOS - I'll explain later) and leave it happy in the knowledge that the
only way out of the program is to turn the computer off.

When locked the program will trap CTRL-BREAK and CTRL-ALT-DEL so the
reset button is the only way to get rid of it!

N.B. The program will work under Windows but unfortunately Windows gets to
the CTRL-ALT-DEL before the program and therefore it can be closed down,
in DOS mode in Win95 it will work as it was designed to however.

Using the program

Using lock is very simple. It can be run in two modes:

1. Just type "lck" at the command prompt, you will be prompted for a
password - only one mind you so make sure you remember it.
The terminal will then be locked and the screen saving message will move
around until you hit a key.
When you do, enter the password again and you will be let out.
The program will show you a short message informing you if someone has been
playing guess the password. That's it - simple isn't it.

2. The other method is basically the same as 1 but you set the password on
the command line:
type "lck password" replacing password with the code to lock the system with. The rest of the program operation is the same as 1.
This is useful if you want to automatically lock the system from a batch
file when you turn it on for example.

This program was designed to secure the terminal I was logged into on the
school network to stop my friends deleting all my work! It worked and you
may well find uses for it. If you do let me know.

This program is freeware, however if you use and like it please email me
and let me know where you got it from, I would be interested to know.
This also goes if you have any suggestions as I might well use them.
