Dear Shareware Author:

Thank you for downloading "Understanding Your Competition". This
in-depth look at what you need to know about your competition is
a sample chapter from my book "The Business of Shareware". Both
ASCII and HTML versions are included in this archive (the HTML
version is highly recommended).

To read the HTML version, simply load chapt10.htm into any WWW browser
that supports tables. You do not need to be online (or even have an
Internet account) to read the HTML version.

To read the ASCII version, load chapt10.txt into any text editor
(or your word processor). For best results, do not use proportional
fonts. The sample chapter includes two images in GIF format. View
them using any image viewer.

Other free and for-sale articles, reports, and publications of interest
to shareware authors can be found on my WWW site at

   http://www.interlog.com/~emallay/

Copies can also be obtained via email. Please send inquires to:

   emallay@interlog.com

The following files are included in this archive:

-> file_id.diz Brief description of this archive
  -> readme.txt    This file...
-> chapt10.htm HTML version of the sample chapter
-> chapt10.txt ASCII version of the sample chapter
-> chapt10a.gif Graphic: Types of Competitors
-> chapt10b.gif Graphic: Example feature breakdown chart
-> toc.htm HTML version of the Table of Contents for The
                   Business of Shareware
-> toc.txt ASCII version of the Table of Contents for The
                   Business of Shareware
-> orderfrm.txt Order form for The Business of Shareware

The Business of Shareware is an on-going project. Since the book is
now published in electronic format it is updated and expanded
regularly. This chapter may have changed since the release of this
archive on June 22, 1996. If you are reading it after December 1, 1996,
your copy is probably missing a lot of new information. Please visit my
WWW site or contact me by email for the latest version.

If you have any questions or comments about this sample chapter, or
about my book, please let me know. I'm always interested in your
feedback.

Cheers,

Eugene Mallay
