Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~
APPINST is a program I wrote to make installing  programs from floppy  disks a
much simpler process. It's made especially for people who have very small hard
drives or are running low on available disk space. If you look at the contents
of your hard disk you will  probably find that there is very little you use on
a very regular basis,  so it makes sense to store these  programs on diskettes
where they are not taking up valuable  disk space.  The only problem with this
is that it can be tedious and  awkward re-installing them.  With this program,
you can easily install  programs in a fraction  of the time it would  normally
take to manually install them.
____________
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Installation is simple for APPINST. Just unzip all the files into a directory
(such as C:\APPINST) and that's it. You may also want to create a batch file
as described in [Other Notes].
_____________
Using APPINST
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All programs are divided up into as many as 40 groups. You can have up to 1600
different installation procedures (40 groups with 40 programs).  You can add a
new group by pressing F2 and typing the name of the group.  When it asks for a
filename, just press enter to accept the file name it suggests. You can remove
a group  by pressing F5.  Similarly,  when you are  viewing the contents  of a
group, you can add a program by pressing F2.  Fill in the name of the program,
the disk it is on and the command to install it. This command can be a program
such as A:\INSTALL.EXE, or a command like PKUNZIP A:\PATH\PROGRAM.ZIP C:\PATH,
or, in fact, any DOS command or program.  You can remove a program by pressing
F5. Any commands you can use will always be shown at the bottom of the screen.
___________
Other Notes
~~~~~~~~~~~
There are two switches you can use with APPINST:
APPINST /a Use this switch if you are running dos from the diskette drive
APPINST /nl Use this to disable the "Install" logo. This will speed the
             program up slightly, and won't require PICEM.EXE
It's very important that the program is run from the directory it is in. You
may want to set up this batch file in the root directory:
@c:
@cd\appinst
@appinst
If you call this file APPINST.BAT, it doesn't matter where you type APPINST.
It will change to the APPINST directory for you.
These are all the files you should have got with this program:
APPINST.EXE             The main executable
PICEM.EXE Program required to load the graphic (This program is
                        not required if you use the /nl switch.
GROUPS.INI Initialization file containing groups info.
*.GRP All groups have a separate file with a GRP extension.
APPINST.TXT             This file.
ORDER.TXT Order form for Appinst 3 (only $4!)
_________
Freeware!
~~~~~~~~~
This program is freeware,  which means that you don't have to pay anything for
it and  you can give copies to anyone  else as long as all  files are included
and unmodified. You can, however, order APPINST version 3 for only $4 (USD) or
3 (IEP). Here's just some of the features you'll get when you buy version 3:
* Greatly improved interface
* Mouse Support
* Support for even more programs (like you'll need it!)
* Full printed illustrated manual.
* Free Update information via e-mail.
* The size of the program will still be just as small, if not smaller!
* and lots more!
So print and fill out ORDER.TXT now!
Please allow 28 days for delivery.
