  Lutetium is a rare-earth, Group-IIB transition metal. It is the final 
rare-earth metal on the periodic chart and it marks the end of the 
lantanide series of elements.
  Lutetium is also the hardest and heaviest of the rare earths. It has a
silvery-white color and is fairly stable under normal atmospheric 
conditions.
