******************************************************************************* * WELCOME TO ALDE PUBLISHING'S SUPER BLUE * * THIS IS THE COMPLETE COLLECTION OF THE NEW YORK AMATEUR COMPUTER CLUB * * THE EQUIVALENT OF 612 FLOPPY DISKS * * IN THE MAKING SINCE 1983 * ******************************************************************************* This is a very large collection of software. It is now your collection. How to find what you are looking for?? We have provided variety of methods. You can use our automated search utilities -- VOLS or CAT -- or you can browse the catalogs with any text editor or lister. Whatever method you use, you will find some wonderful software on the disc. Remember, if you find something you intend to use, if it is SHAREWARE, please register your copy with the author. We recommend you use the VOLS and CAT utilities to navigate the disc. There are, however, alternative methods. In the UTILITY subdirectory you will find various catalogs of the collection. These can all be searched with any word processor, text editor or text lister. You could even use the DOS, TYPE command. If you find a program or disk you want, you will need to unarchive the disk. We have zipped each of them into a separate ZIP volume. There is a BAT file that will aid in getting these where you want them. Type BLUE [drive letter:] [vol???.zip] [DOS path to destination] This must be run from the root directory of the CDROM READ ON for info on using the two utilities. They can be used with little or no instruction but this will give you an idea of what to expect. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE UTILITY PROGRAM CAT: 1.) Log onto your CDROM drive. (take off the caps-lock & num-lock) 2.) Type CAT. IF the CDROM drive is some letter other than D: Type CAT [drive letter] (you do not need to include / or the colon. it is not case sensitive.) 3.) It will take a moment for the file to load into your memory. When it is ready you will hear a beep and the status bar will prompt you to push F3 for BROWSE / F4 to SEARCH. 4.) If you push F3, twenty categories will be presented to you. a.) Using the space bar, move the arrow to the category of choice. b.) Press enter. 5.) If you push F4, a long box will come up on the screen. a.) Enter any word or phrase in the box. b.) Press enter. 6.) At this point the same screen will be up for either mode. a.) If you are BROWSING all the files in that category will be up. Push PgUp/PgDn to bring up new or go back to a previous screen of files. b.) If you are searching, the list of files will consist of files containing the word(s) you typed in. Manipulate the screen in the same way as the BROWSE screen. 7.) If you find a file you want, use the space bar to scroll the desired file up into the long box at the bottom of your screen. Push F10 or ENTER to choose this VOLUME for extraction. The entire volume "your" program is on will be unarchived to ensure all the necessary support files and shareware info is included. 8.) You are in the unarchiving screen. Now move the arrow (use the space bar) to the drive you want. If it is A: or B: insert an empty 360K floppy. If you are going to your hard drive, the program will create a directory "BLUEWORK" on the C: drive. (If, after the first time, you have something in this subdirectory, you will be given the option to delete all the files before the new volume is loaded down.) 9.) Press enter and the volume will be placed in the destination. 10.) Terminate or continue to search/browse. USING THE VOLS UTILITY: The operation of this utility is the same as the CAT utility. In that this is a brief description of each disk (volume) the only difference will be in the BROWSE mode. Instead of being presented with a list of Categories the list of 612 disk volumes will be immediately presented. The search works the same. Start the utility by typing: VOLS or VOLS [drive letter]. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY HUNTING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
