DX.EXE -- The Shortwave Listener's Help Utility

Program: DX.EXE
Version: 1.0

Files required: HOMEQTH.DAT
                - specify your home location and coordinates
                - by default, this file contains the name and
coordinates of the author's home QTH
                  (QTH = location).
                - if you like, you can, of course, put any name
                  and coordinates to this file
                - this file is self-documenting (there are instructions
inside the file on how to use it

                DX.DAT
                - freely configurable file full of names and
and coordinates to different radio stations
                  all over the world
                - by default, there are a selected number of
names and coordinates of some of the international
shortwave broadcasters. Many are very frequent on
your shortwave radio dial; some are more excotic.
Feel free to modify this as you please and see fit.
                - this is a simple ASCII file, so use your favorite editor
                  to make any modifications
                - this file is also self-documenting

Put these files to the same directory with
the DX.EXE program, and start the program
while in the directory. This is to ensure that
the program finds the necessary data files at start-up.

What It Does: The basic idea is this: The program calculates
the distance from your home QTH to the transmitter site
you have chosen from the list. Moreover, it gives you
the direction (in degrees) whereto you should walk from
                your home to get there.

How To Use: It is very simple to use: you just move the white pointer
on the name of the station you are interested in. Then
press RETURN or ENTER. The program puts the results on
the right side of the screen. Then you can choose another
                station.

To quit the program, just press the ESC key.

There are several ways to select a station. You can use the
arrow keys to move one station at a time up or down. Or you
can use PgDn or PgUp keys to move one screenful at a time
up or down. Use Home to go to the first item, or End to go
                to the last item.

                of course, any ? 0;-) to jpe@uwasa.fi.

Features: 1. The program reads only the first 400 entries
                   from DX.DAT

                2. Only the first 35 characters of the name of the QTH
are displayed in the main window
