Zenith Data Systems launches Z-STATION VP desktop line

Low-price/high-performance systems offer affordable move into the futureFor
Immediate Release

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. -- August 14, 1995 -- Zenith Data Systems (ZDS) today
introduced a desktop computer line configured for optimum
price/performance value today, with an eye to the future. Shipping now,
the new Energy Star compliant Z-STATION VP series offers established,
high-performance technologies, investment protection features, and
flexibility for future growth. The value-priced desktops represent ZDS'
second phase in restructuring the Z-STATION family, following the
introduction of the high-end customizable Z-STATION GT series announced in
the spring.

"Revamping the low-price/high-value end of our popular Z-STATION line is
our response to the recent changes in the market and ever-evolving
consumer needs," said Jeff Loebbaka, senior director of desktop product
marketing at ZDS. "Now more than ever, ZDS offers clear choices and
product configurations that make it easy for customers to buy exactly what
they need today -- and protects them for the future -- all at the best
possible price."

Best Buy for Today's Technology

To achieve the optimal balance of value and performance with mid-range 486
DX and Pentium processor configurations, Zenith Data Systems' new
Z-STATION VP desktops feature the latest leading-edge mainstream
technologies including PCI local bus, 64-bit video graphics accelerator
support, plus enhanced IDE drives and controllers. Options include
write-back cache (256K is standard on Pentium preconfigured systems),
memory and CPU upgrades, 1MB video DRAM expandable to 2MB, and a choice of
three different cabinets: the standard desktop, the spacesaver desktop,
and the mini-tower. "Tremendous value is engineered right into the
Z-STATION VP long before we put on the low price tag," said Loebbaka. "We
made the most of the processing power available, stretched it to get that
extra mile of efficient performance, then went a step further with
investment protection for the future."

Valuable Features for Tomorrow

Features ZDS categorizes as "investment protection" are indeed key
value-adds in the Z-STATION VP line. Tested and certified to run Windows
95, special Windows 95 configurations of the new Z-STATION VP will be
available when the new operating system ships in August. Full support of
Plug and Play technology makes add-ins easy to install, set up and
self-configure.

The new Z-STATION VP also supports DDC1, the automatic synchronization
capability for optimal video refresh rates. Ready for the future,
Z-STATION VPs equipped with hard drives come Desktop Management Interface
(DMI) ready with all of the hardware and client system software for full
compliance with the DMI standard. When coupled with a network management
application, this technology of tomorrow will allow for easy hardware
asset management and tracking, software downloading, as well as fixing
corrupted data files from a remote server.

"Zenith Data Systems does extensive testing to make sure our products work
no matter what the operating system or network environment is," said
Loebbaka. "The Z-STATION VP is designed to work for today and tomorrow as
customers' needs change, which makes these desktops a very smart
investment."

Expandability for Flexibility

"The ability to accommodate users' ever-changing needs is as important as
optimizing systems for future technology," continued Loebbaka. "Room to
grow and add capabilities are essential components of the perfect
value/performance balance in the Z-STATION VP."

The Z-STATION VP comes in three different cabinet styles with numerous open
slots and bays to extend computing capabilities to include data/fax
modems, Ethernet or Token Ring network cards, Sound Blaster cards, video
cards, quad-speed CD-ROM or tape backups and many more options. The
standard desktop cabinet features five open slots: three 16-bit ISA and
two 32-bit PCI slots, plus three open bays. A second desktop model -- the
spacesaver -- offers three open slots: two 16-bit ISA and one 32-bit
PCI/ISA combination, in addition to one open bay. The mini-tower cabinet
includes six open slots: three 16-bit ISA, two 32-bit PCI, and one PCI/ISA
combination, and six open bays.
