WESTERN DIGITAL RAMPS UP FOR WINDOWS 95, EXPANDS TECHNICAL SUPPORT SERVICES
IN SUPPORT OF HIGH VOLUME RETAIL SEASON

Western Digital is the only drive company to offer Saturday support

IRVINE, CA. -- August 22, 1995 -- Western Digital Corporation (NYSE:WDC)
today announced that the Company has expanded its technical support group
in support of the increased retail hard disk drive upgrade activity
expected with the launch of Windows 95. All Western Digital Caviar drives
have been certified for use with Windows 95.

The expanded services will complement the existing 20-person technical
support staff in the Company's Irvine headquarters. The new group, fully
trained by Western Digital's Irvine technical support staff, consists of
25 members subcontracted from RTS Inc., of Rochester, Minn.

The expanded technical support group also provides Western Digital with
extended hours in which to fully service customer needs. The new retail
support hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (CST), Monday to Friday, and 8:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CST) on Saturday. Western Digital is the only drive
company to offer its customers Saturday support.

"According to PC Magazine, Windows 95 requires approximately 60% more
storage capacity than previous versions of the operating system," said
John Burger, vice president of marketing for Western Digital's Personal
Storage Group. "End users moving to Windows 95 will need more disk space,
and our retail upgrade kits make it easier for them to acquire that
space.We try to do everything we can to make it quick and easy to install
a drive, including full documentation, and a step-by-step Quick Install
poster. Plus, in order to provide end users with an even higher level of
support, we have expanded our technical support times to more closely
match the times that users want to call us -- and that includes
Saturdays."

support in Windows 95, making it easier for users to install and configure
new drives," said Brad Chase, general manager of the personal systems
division at Microsoft.

tested in the Company's FIT Lab (Functional Integrity Test Lab) to ensure

rate of 300,000 hours.
