UNISYS IS FIRST TO DEMONSTRATE REPOSITORY SUPPORT FOR CORBA AND OLE; PORTS
SOFTWARE TO MS WINDOWS NT

San Francisco, CA, August 15, 1995 -- At the Object World conference and
exposition today, the Unisys Universal Repository became the first product
of its kind to demonstrate support for the Common Object Request Broker
Architecture (CORBA) and Microsoft Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
automation interfaces. CORBA and OLE are the industry's leading standards
promoting interoperability among different object-oriented software
products.

The Universal Repository is the industry's first fully object-oriented
repository for access, concurrent sharing and updating of business
information for workgroup software development.

Compliance to these standards allows the Universal Repository to
dynamically share information with other software tools and repositories.
This new measure of software interoperability gives users an unprecedented
degree of flexibility to reuse previously developed software, thereby
saving time, expense and effort in creating new solutions.

Unisys also announced that the Universal Repository now supports the
Microsoft Windows NT operating system, in addition to previously released
support for Sun Solaris. Support for Windows NT, a widely accepted server
platform, will drive the adoption of the Universal Repository as the
repository of choice for software developers.

"Two key requirements must be satisfied for the market to embrace
object-oriented repository technology: enterprise-capable repository
software and the ability to access objects, including encapsulated legacy
objects, from the desktop," said Ro Finn, vice president and general
manager,

Unisys Management Systems Division, the business unit that develops and
markets Universal Repository and other Single Point software products. "By
adding standards compliance to the most advanced repository product
available today, Unisys is accelerating the entry of object-oriented
software into mainstream computing."

With these announcements, Unisys broadens its lead in repository
technology, which was established by the May 1995 introduction of the
Universal Repository, the industry's first fully object-oriented
repository. Object-oriented software technology improves the productivity
of software developers by allowing them to reuse and combine objects --
self-contained, "encapsulated" modules of data and the processes that act
on the data -- that have been previously developed.

Both CORBA and OLE interfaces are generated entirely by the Universal
Repository and require no effort on the part of software developers.

The CORBA standard, established by the Object Management Group, defines the
common attributes needed for interoperability among various distributed
applications using Object Request Brokers (ORBs). An ORB is the software
service that controls access to objects stored in a distributed,
heterogeneous computing environment. Compliance to the CORBA standard
allows the Universal Repository to access, or to be accessed by, a variety
of other repositories or tools.

The Microsoft OLE standard provides for the interface between databases and
Windows-based software development tools or software applications. The
Universal Repository's OLE automation interface automatically converts OLE
calls into CORBA messages for accessing Universal Repository information.
OLE compliance allows objects stored in the Universal Repository to be
accessed and manipulated by any OLE-compliant Windows tools popular among
software developers, such as Microsoft Visual Basic or PowerSoft
PowerBuilder. For end users, it is the key to integrating enterprise
information stored in the Universal Repository with desktop productivity
tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

CORBA, OLE interfaces and application registry based on Universal
Repository demonstrated at Object WorldAt Object World, the industry's
foremost exhibition and conference devoted to object-oriented software
technology, Unisys is demonstrating Universal Repository's new CORBA and
OLE interfaces in real-world operating scenarios.

The Universal Repository's CORBA- and OLE-compliant interfaces, residing on
a Sun Solaris server, are being shown sharing information with two
multivendor ORBs. Multiple Microsoft Windows applications are demonstrated
using the Universal Repository's OLE automation interface to access
information via DAIS, the ORB from International Computers Limited (ICL).
In a second demonstration, Iona Technologies Ltd.'s Orbix uses a custom
business object end-user browser, developed by National and Provincial
Building Society, to access the Universal Repository. In addition, the
Universal Repository, residing on a Windows NT server and supporting Post
Modern Computing's ORBeline ORB, is being used as the central server for
registering all vendor applications at Object World's OMG demonstration
area.

Price and availability

Unisys Universal Repository is available now for Sun Solaris and Microsoft
Windows NT platforms, with support for UNIX, Windows and Windows NT
clients. Prices range from $1,900 to $9,000, depending on options. The
CORBA-compliant ORB and OLE support are currently in alpha testing, and
will be available with the Universal Repository in 1996.

The Unisys Universal Repository is available immediately for independent
software vendors (ISVs) under OEM licensing agreements. Sales to end users
will be through selected resellers who offer quality professional software
development consulting and support services to ensure successful
implementation. For more information and the location of the nearest
