UNISYS LAUNCHES SMP 5400 SYMMETRIC MULTIPROCESSING SERVER

High-performance, multi-operating system SMP server targets enterprise-wide
client/server applications

San Jose, Calif. - August 7, 1995 - Underscoring its strategic commitment
to the enterprise-wide client/server market, Unisys Corporation today
announced the SMP 5400, a high-performance, cost-effective symmetric
multiprocessor (SMP) server based on the latest Intel dual PCI bus
architecture. Based on the high-speed Intel Xtended Xpress bus, the SMP
5400 maximizes performance of the 100 MHz Intel Pentium processor, as well
as high-speed peripherals and communication options available for the new
bus. The SMP 5400 also includes high availability features, such as an
internal RAID controller and a storage subsystem with hot-swappable
drives. Finally, the new server is qualified and certified by Unisys for
Unisys SVR4/MP, Microsoft Windows NT 3.5.1 , Novell UnixWare 2.0 and Sun
Solaris 2.4. This combination of high performance, scalability and
multi-operating system support makes the SMP 5400 ideal for
enterprise-wide deployment in branch automation, departmental and
replicated server environments supporting mission-critical applications.

The Unisys SMP 5400 gives customers a high degree of flexibility and
superior price/performance for large-scale, enterprise-wide requirements.
The SMP 5400 delivers superior price/performance by leveraging Intel's
state-of-the-art technology and volume c ommodity pricing. In addition,
though most high-performance servers support just one operating system,
the SMP 5400 is fully qualified and certified for a multiple operating
systems to optimize hardware and software performance. Customers can now
choose one server for a range of applications without sacrificing
performance or affordability.

"The SMP 5400 reinforces Unisys strategic commitment to delivering the most
competitive and complete line of Intel-based SMP servers in the industry,"
said George Moore, vice president of product marketing, Unisys
high-performance server group."In addition, qualifying multiple operating
systems on a single server enables customers to leverage synergies between
the SMP 5400 and its software environments, simplifying deployment and
system integration."

The SMP 5400 In-depth

The SMP 5400 supports up to four 100 MHz Intel Pentium processors, up to
768 MB of main memory and 500K or 1 MB of cache memory for the most robust
applications. Like all other Unisys SMP servers, the SMP 5400 offers
superior investment protection by sup porting future generations of Intel
processors, including the P6. Customers can easily replace processor
options or add new processors to an existing SMP 5400 to leverage the
latest processor enhancements.

Each system includes an internal RAID controller supporting RAID levels 0,
1 and 5 and a mass storage system with hot-swap capabilities, giving
customers the added assurance of high resiliency and availability for
mission-critical applications. Finally, the SMP 5400 provides flexible
expansion with four EISA slots, two 32-bit PCI slots and two shared
EISA/PCI slots supporting a wide range of industry-standard peripherals.

Price and Availability

The SMP 5400 will be available in August at prices ranging from $15,000
($U.S.) to $30,000 ($U.S.) depending on the server configuration and
selected options. For further information and the location of the nearest
