TEXAS INSTRUMENTS ANNOUNCES THE NEW TRAVELMATE 5100 NOTEBOOK WITH 90MHZ
PROCESSOR

TEMPLE, TEXAS (August 21, 1995) _ Adding to its award-winning family of
TravelMate 5000 Pentium notebooks featuring PCI bus architecture, Texas
Instruments today announced the TravelMate 5100. The newest member of TI's
TravelMate 5000 family takes notebook performance to new heights featuring
a 90MHz Pentium processor with PCI bus architecture and 256KB Level 2 (L2)
cache, a 1.2 gigabyte hard disk drive, and a brilliant 10.4" active matrix
color display with 65,000 colors. The TravelMate 5100 comes with both
Windows tm 95 and Windows for Workgroups pre-installed, allowing customers
to immediately take advantage of the new features of Windows 95 while
having the convenience of Windows for Workgroups.

Along with high performance, the TravelMate 5100 offers outstanding
mobility with a small footprint and a weight of only 6.7 pounds, which
includes two lithium ion battery packs delivering the industry's longest
battery life. The TravelMate 5100 provides exceptional connectivity with a
serial infrared port for wireless connectivity, a PCMCIA Type III card
slot and an external PCI expansion bus allowing PCI performance to be
carried through to external peripherals and docking systems.

"With the introduction of our 90MHz TravelMate 5100, Texas Instruments has
once again raised the standard in high- performance notebook computing,"
said Steve Lair, Vice President and Worldwide Executive Director of TI's
Mobile Computing Group. "The TravelMate 5100 delivers true desktop
performance, with the 90MHz Pentium processing power, PCI bus
architecture, 256KB L2 cache, a high-capacity hard disk drive and superior
active matrix color display. This newest model continues TI's tradition of
exceptional power, extraordinary battery life, mobility and
connectivity."

PCI Bus For True Pentium Performance And Investment Protection

Most notebook computers today use an 8MHz, 16-bit ISA bus; no matter how
fast the processor, information still moves slowly across the bus.
However, the TravelMate 5100 notebook is designed around a 32-bit, 30MHz,
synchronous PCI bus, allowing TI notebooks to receive and transfer
information faster while eliminating bottlenecks. The PCI bus has the
bandwidth to support the multi-tasking capabilities of Windows 95. The
TravelMate 5100 includes not only an internal PCI bus, but an external PCI
bus for improved performance of docking system and peripheral
accessories.

Outstanding Battery Life

The TravelMate 5100 includes an intelligent battery system with two lithium
ion battery packs -- the same battery system as TI's TravelMate 5000,
which won PC Magazine's Editor's Choice Award for full-featured notebooks
in the August 1995 issue. Among 80 notebooks tested, TI's TravelMate 5000
had the longest battery life in PC Magazine's WinDrain test.

Windows 95 and Windows for Workgroups Pre-installed The TravelMate 5100
gives users the convenience of both Windows 95 and Windows for Workgroups.
Users can immediately take advantage of Windows 95 or simply start with
Windows for Workgroups and move to Windows 95 at any time while never
deleting either operating system. The TravelMate 5100 provides investment
protection, both today and tomorrow.

With an estimated street price of $5399*, the TravelMate 5100 is available
through TI's extensive network of dealers and distributors worldwide.
