TEXAS INSTRUMENTS SOFTWARE BUSINESS INTRODUCES ARRANGER

The power of enterprise data is now accessible from the desktop

PLANO, Texas (April 24, 1995) -- Texas Instruments (TI) Software Business
today announces Arranger -- a suite of software tools that brings the
power of enterprise applications to the desktop user. Arranger provides a
way for mission-critical applications and data to be accessed from
OLE-enabled applications while maintaining business rules and data
integrity. With Arranger, end users can reuse business objects(1) to
create custom applications to meet their specific business needs.

Business objects created by TI's Composer by IEFclient/server application
development product can be enrolled into the Arranger Catalog and made
available to desktop users of Microsoft Corporation's Visual Basic (VB)
and Microsoft Excel. Through OLE desktop applications, users now have
immediate access to enterprise data in a familiar environment. At the same
time, IS can be assured of data integrity and consistency of business
rules. The Arranger suite of tools will be delivered in August 1995.

As part of the Arranger product development, TI Software Business
established a Customer Advisory Board made up of 18 of the company's
worldwide client/server technology customers. This Board has provided
guidance on product needs and direction.

"Our customers have been reinventing their organizations into more dynamic
enterprises. Key to their success is the widespread enablement of
employees to develop their own information solutions quickly and
accurately," said Duncan McClain, director, worldwide marketing for TI
Software Business.

"Arranger leverages object technology from TI's Composer product to easily
access and execute enterprise-wide business rules, processes and data from
popular desktop application tools such as Visual Basic and Microsoft
Excel. Since the information accessed by the end user is exactly the same
as that which powers the enterprise, data integrity is maintained
throughout all information solutions across the organization," said Johnny
Long, director of product technology.

Arranger Environment

Arranger is available in two versions: Professional and Standard. The
Professional version of Arranger is targeted for use by IS developers.
This toolkit provides IS developers the ability to create business objects
from information stored in the Composer client/server Encyclopedia. These
objects are enrolled into a Catalog and represent server applications in
operation. The Catalog contains information on the business objects, the
business rules and the physical location of the business object so that
the objects can be reused throughout the organization. The Professional
version includes the Enroller, Catalog and a tool for creating
applications, called the Business Task Designer.

The Standard version of Arranger is targeted for use by power users of
Visual Basic and Microsoft Excel. It provides users with tools for the
custom assembly of applications. The Standard version includes the
Business Task Designer and integration assistants that help programmers
create the user interface and task flows within Visual Basic and Microsoft
Excel applications. The Arranger Business Task Designer incorporates a
server's business rules and data into an application created with an
OLE-enabled tool. Users familiar with tools such as Microsoft Excel and
Visual Basic can incorporate an organization's information quickly and
easily.

"Microsoft's strategy is to leverage enterprise information with products
such as Arranger and Visual Basic," said Jon Roskill, Microsoft's Visual
Basic product manager. "Arranger gives Visual Basic programmers access to
enterprise information using OLE as the application framework. The end
result is more and more users being able to quickly get and customize
corporate data and business rules for their everyday business decisions."

Evolving Product Strategy

Arranger represents a major product release by TI Software Business to
define its vision for component-based application development.

"Component-based applications are an important factor in how information
systems will become more responsive to changing business needs. Composer
by IEF was the first deliverable of TI's component-based application
architecture strategy," said Duncan McClain. "Arranger is our next major
step in that direction."

Arranger ties into TI's overall product strategy to promote component-based
application development. The Arranger toolset is used with TI's Composer
by IEF. Customers can build objects with Composer and use them with
Arranger. In future releases, Arranger will work with other application
development tools and the Arranger Catalog design will include technology
derived from the TI/Microsoft joint open repository design effort.

Pricing and Availability

Arranger development and runtime environments will initially be available
on the Windows3.11 platform. Pricing will be based on the number of
"developer seats" and "end user seats." A variety of packaged
configurations will be offered with corporate and site licensing options
made available. Arranger will be available from the TI Software Business
direct sales force.
