S&S introduces U.S. editions of "Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit"

Software kills known & unknown computer viruses; introduces U.S. users to
round-the-clock service, support

BURLINGTON, MASS., Aug. 28, 1995 -- S&S Software International Inc. this
week announces and ships new editions of "DR Solomon's ANTI-VIRUS Toolkit
for Windows, MS/PC-DOS, NetWare and OS/2.

The award-winning Toolkit now detects and removes more than 6,700 known
viruses on desktop, notebook and network computers.

It arms users with new weapons to prevent a virus attack and stop a virus
before it damages or destroys data and software applications, including:

* "Advanced heuristic analysis" to detect, decrypt and eradicate unknown
viruses -- for example, the 150 to 200 new viruses that the
industry-leading virus research team at S&S identifies each month.

* WinGuard, a virtual device driver (VxD) for 32-bit anti-virus protection
under Windows 3.1 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11. WinGuard scans programs
before they execute and blocks access to an infected file before a virus
inflicts wider damage.

* Scanning inside compressed ARJ, ARC, LZExe, ICE, PKLite and PKZip files.
This includes the unique ability to recursively scan compressed files
packed inside compressed files -- a PKZip file inside an ARJ file, for
example. This checks and safeguards executables attached to electronic
mail, stored on diskette, distributed on CD-ROM, or downloaded from an
on-line service or the Internet.

* On-access scanning for NetWare. This erects an anti-virus "firewall" that
detects and prevents use of infected workstation files, blocking the
spread of a virus to network servers and the entire enterprise.

* A 32-bit Presentation Manager interface, installer and memory-resident
anti-virus scanner for users of OS/2, OS/2 Warp and OS/2 Warp Connect.

Registered users that purchase the new Windows Toolkit between July 31 and
November 1 receive a free upgrade to the forthcoming Toolkit for Windows
95.

The updated TOOLKIT is the first designed specifically for the United
States. It introduces U.S. corporate, professional, small office/home
office, workstation and other users, MIS managers and network
administrators to the industry-leading services and round-the-clock
anti-virus support that have helped to earn the Toolkit nearly 3 million
users worldwide.

Services

These services, among others, include:

* Toll-free technical support for virus emergencies, available seven
  days a week, 24 hours a day.
* Technical support for installation, configuration and other general
issues Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.
* Support via a CompuServe forum (GO DRSOLOMONS) and the World
  Wide Web (http://www.sands.com).
* Quarterly updates sent automatically to registered users, with
  monthly updates also available.

Research team

When users encounter new viruses, the company's industry-leading anti-virus
research team provides 24-to-48-hour virus identification and, when
possible, repair.

This "hit squad" is comprised of the world's top experts in anti-virus
research, including Dr. Alan Solomon, creator of the Toolkit and chairman
and founder of S&S; Dmitry Gryaznov from the Russian Academy of Sciences;
and C. Glenn Jordan, co-developer of Virex PC anti-virus software.

Scanning, repair

All editions of the Toolkit scan up to 7MB a second.

A redesigned interface supports easy, point-and-shoot repairs of
virus-damaged files, Master Boot Records and boot sectors.

The new heuristics flag suspicious code generated by the most complex
encrypted and polymorphic viruses -- viruses that mutate with each new
file they infect, making them extremely hard to detect.

NetWare pricing

The new NetWare edition of the Toolkit is a NetWare Loadable Module for use
with NetWare 3.x and 4.x.

It includes the Windows and DOS versions of the Toolkit, enabling system
administrators and MIS managers to undertake the low-level tasks necessary
to virus detection and repair.

The NetWare Toolkit is available for single and multiple servers, and in
packages that protect 10, 25, 50 and 100 workstations. A 10-user starter
pack is $1,050, suggested retail. A similar 100-user corporate license
with two servers would be $4,798, SRP.

Windows, OS/2 pricing

The single-user copy of the Windows edition of the Toolkit is $125 SRP. It
includes the DOS version of the Toolkit.

The new OS/2 edition of the TOOLKIT is $149 SRP. It includes the Windows
and DOS editions.

All quoted prices include one year of quarterly updates. Monthly updates
are also available.

Licenses, upgrades

Corporate site licenses are available to business and government users.

Colleges, universities, high schools and other educational institutions
with more than 2,000 students may obtain a special flat-rate license to
use the Toolkit for $3,500 a year. This campus-wide license covers
multiple operating systems, servers and workstations, and includes
quarterly updates.

S&S also offers a half-price competitive upgrade to users with a site
license for other anti-virus software. The competitive upgrade offer
includes an optional day of training.

About S&S

Introduction of the new US editions of the Toolkit follows the opening in
April of offices near Boston and Los Angeles to sell and support the
TOOLKIT in the US.

Founded in 1984 by Dr. Alan Solomon, S&S is headquartered in the United
Kingdom. The company specializes in security and networking products for
IBM-compatible systems. It is one of the fastest-growing independent
companies in the UK, ranked fifth by Price Waterhouse for 1995, and is one
of the 50 largest software companies in Europe.

The Toolkit is the winner of multiple awards, including the prestigious
"Queen's Award for Technological Achievement." It is also the winner of
exhaustive comparative reviews conducted by Virus Bulletin and Secure
Computing.

When tested by the National Computer Security Association, an industry
expert on computer security, the Toolkit detects 100 percent of all
viruses "in the wild."

All available versions of the Toolkit are NCSA-certified.

More to come

The new US editions of the Toolkit are the first of several updates coming
from S&S. The company plans Fall 1995 introductions of Toolkits for users
of Windows 95, Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation, Macintosh and
SCO UNIX.
