ONTRACK INTRODUCES DISK MANAGER 7.0; BEST-SELLING DISK INSTALLATION UTILITY
MAXIMIZES THE PERFORMANCE AND CAPACITY OF HARD DISK DRIVES

Disk Manager 7.0 bundled on drives from leading manufacturers

Minneapolis, MN. (August 7, 1995) -- Ontrack Computer Systems today
announced Disk Manager 7.0, a major enhancement to its best-selling disk
installation utility. Disk Manager 7.0 incorporates several new advances
that maximize the performance and capacity of IDE and Enhanced IDE hard
disk drives. The package also extends its platform support beyond DOS and
Windows to include Windows 95, Windows NT, and OS/2 Warp. With potentially
millions of computer users adding new storage capacity in the wake of
Windows 95, Disk Manager 7.0 will prove to be an indispensable tool for
many users.

First introduced in 1985, Disk Manager has sold over 14 million copies and
is widely recognized as the de facto standard in disk installation
software. As a sign of continued market dominance, Ontrack currently has
Disk Manager bundling agreements with disk drive and controller card
manufacturers including Adaptec, Fujitsu, Hitachi, IBM, Maxtor, NEC, NEC
Europe, Quantum, Reveal, Samsung, Toshiba Europe, and Western Digital.

"Disk Manager 7.0 helps end users fully exploit the capacity and
performance capabilities of their hard disk drives," said John Pence,
president of Ontrack Computer Systems. "Typical disk installations that
can take over one hour to perform manually are accomplished with Disk
Manager in a minute or two. Disk Manager's ability to configure disk
drives larger than 528 MB is particularly useful for today's higher
capacity drives."

Disk Manager Breaks The BIOS Bottleneck

Disk Manager helps users overcome the BIOS limitations common in older
computers that can restrict usable hard disk drive capacity. Typically,
BIOS limitations are encountered when a user attempts to install a new
drive on an existing computer. If the new drive has a storage capacity of
over 528 MB, older BIOSs that are unable to translate the hard drive to
under 1024 cylinders will restrict usable capacity to 528 MB. This BIOS
limitation directly impacts systems running under DOS, Windows, or Windows
95. Disk Manager 7.0 utilizes proprietary Ontrack disk installation
technology to overcome system BIOS limitations and deliver usable capacity
over 528 MB.

Disk Manager 7.0 Speeds Disk Drive Installation and Performance

Disk Manager 7.0 utilizes proprietary Ontrack technology that eliminates
the need to manually select drive models and parameters. The technology
also ensures that drives are automatically configured for the highest
performance setting allowed by the disk controller. This technology,
called Dynamic Drive Overlay, simplifies installation and maximizes
performance by performing a DOS pre-boot translation that defines disk
parameters without the need for device drivers. If the system is using an
Enhanced IDE controller, for example, Disk Manager automatically adjusts
the controller to support the fastest data transfer mode each drive will
support. If the system is a local bus or PCI system, Dynamic Drive Overlay
will use 32 bit data transfers.

Disk Manager 7.0 further improves disk drive performance by incorporating
technology from Ontrack's popular Drive Rocket acceleration software into
the Dynamic Drive Overlay. This technology improves performance by
enabling IDE disk drives to read and write multiple sectors of data at one
time. Without this feature, ordinary IDE drives can only read and write
one sector at a time. According to performance tests conducted by Ontrack,
Dynamic Drive Overlay and its components can improve the data transfer
rate of most disk drives by an average of 25%, with some drives showing
improvement up to 80%. The extent to which Dynamic Drive Overlay will
enhance performance depends on the hardware, operating system, and how the
system is used.

Specifications, Pricing and Availability

Disk Manager installs IDE/AT, Enhanced IDE, and SCSI hard disk drives. It
is compatible with IBM AT, 386, 486, Pentium, or compatible computers and
all IDE, SCSI, IBM AT and compatible controllers including VL and PCI
local bus. Disk Manager is sold directly by Ontrack, as well as through
retail stores, OEMs, distributors, and dealers. The package carries a
suggested retail price of $124.95. Current owners of Disk Manager may
upgrade to version 7.0 for $25.00. Owners of competitive products may also
upgrade for $25.00 with proof of ownership.

Founded in 1985, Ontrack Computer Systems is a leading vendor of software
and services designed to maximize the integrity, performance and security
of hard disk drive data. The company's subsidiary, Ontrack Data Recovery,
is the largest data recovery firm in the world, specializing in
recapturing lost or corrupted data from any hard drive or alternative
storage media that has fallen victim to a natural disaster, user error, a
virus, electro-magnetic failure, a disk crash, or computer crime. Both
companies are headquartered at 6321 Bury Drive, Minneapolis, Minnesota
55346, and can be reached by phone at (800) 752-1333 or (612) 937-1107. A
sales office and data recovery lab are also located in Los Angeles,
California; Washington, D.C.; Japan; and the United Kingdom.
