UNIXWARE 2 TAKES PRICE-PERFORMANCE CROWN IN AIM BENCHMARK TESTS

Tops SCO OpenServer Release 5 In Operating System Run-off

Florham Park, NJ--August 1, 1995--Novell, Inc. today announced that its
UnixWare# 2 Application Server has again topped its UNIX# System
competition in price-performance and absolute performance, achieving
industry-leading results in a new series of AIM Technology benchmark
tests. In addition, UnixWare 2 easily beat SCO Open Server Release 5
head-to-head in an AIM Operating System Run-Off consisting of two key
performance benchmarks.

AIM, a leading independent performance testing service for UNIX Systems,
will publish these recent results in its Fall 1995 UNIX System Price
Performance Guide. UnixWare 2, a highly scalable and hardware-independent
system, competed in the tests on several different Intel-based servers.

UnixWare 2 running on an Olivetti SNX 400RS/4 System took first place
honors in the AIM Standard Mix, Suite III benchmark, which tests the total
system performance of all major system components in a multi-tasking
environment. Competing in the $25K-$50K class, the UnixWare 2 system
produced the leading results in the Best Price/Peak Performers, Best
Price/Sustained Performers, Best Peak Performer and Best Sustained
Performer categories.

In the AIM Suite VII Shared System Mix, which measures peak demands on
system throughput, UnixWare 2 was also a clear winner-- running on a Chen
Systems CS-1000 Model 10. This test produced the first certified benchmark
results for a shrink-wrapped operating system running on an 8 processor
system, confirming UnixWare 2's ability to support mainframe-class server
performance in enterprise environments. These AIM results will be
published separately.

"With these AIM benchmark results, UnixWare 2 clearly demonstrates the
scalability of our new 8 CPU CS-1000 enterprise server," said Dr. Steve
Chen,
Chief Architect and CEO of Chen Systems Corporation." "Its ability to run
enterprise-class applications such as Oracle's powerful Enterprise Server
'out of the box' allows us to deliver leading high performance servers
with mainframe quality from day one," he added.

In the Operating System Run-Off versus SCO OpenServer Release 5, UnixWare 2
and a Compaq Proliant 4000 system delivered superior performance in all
AIM tests. In the file server test, UnixWare 2 turned in a 5% higher
throughput under heavy loads than did SCO's OpenServer Release 5. In the
Multiuser/Shared System test, UnixWare 2 again out-performed SCO's Open
Server Release 5 with a 9% higher peak performance and a 10% higher
sustained performance under heavy loads.

"AIM's Operating System Run-Off allowed UnixWare 2 to undeniably
demonstrate its superior performance against SCO's OpenServer Release 5,
and we believe these results will assist customers looking for the right
business-critical operating system for their networks," noted Rick
Bohdanowicz, Vice President, Product Marketing, Operating Systems
Division, Novell, Inc.

Novell's UnixWare is a powerful, cost-effective UNIX operating system that
runs on industry-standard hardware, ideal for deploying business-critical
and database applications across the enterprise. It represents the newest
generation of UNIX System V Release 4 technology, originally developed by
UNIX System Laboratories.By combining unmatched applications availability,
price/performance, scalability and network readiness, UnixWare provides an
application server businesses can trust.

UnixWare 2 is available worldwide through the Novell authorized
distribution channel. For more information on UnixWare 2, contact your
