NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS GPIB INTERFACE BOARDS NOW COMPATIBLE WITH HP BASIC/UX

New Compatibility Library Translates Between Any HP SICL-Based Application
and NI-488.2M Software

Austin, Texas - Aug. 16, 1995 - National Instruments - the Virtual
Instrumentation Company - has announced that its interface boards are now
compatible with HP BASIC/UX. The company has developed a compatibility
library that translates HP SICL-based applications, such as those
developed in HP BASIC/UX and HP VEE, to the National Instruments NI488.2M
software for HPUX. With the compatibility library, scientists and
engineers can use the National Instruments EISAGPIB plug-in board and
GPIBENET Ethernet TCP/IP controller with Hewlett-Packard 9000 Series 700
workstations to monitor, control, and communicate with thousands of
GPIB-based engineering or scientific instruments in HP BASIC/UX-based
applications. The library is available at no charge from the National
Instruments FTP site, ftp.natinst.com, and is now included as part of the
NI-488.2M software for HP-UX.

About the EISAGPIB and GPIBENET for HP Workstations

The EISA-GPIB is a high-performance IEEE 488.2 interface board for EISA
computers. Featuring the company's TNT4882C ASIC, it performs the basic
Talker, Listener, and Controller functions required by all versions of the
IEEE 488 standard, including IEEE 488.2. The EISA-GPIB is completely
jumperless/switchless, and is automatically configured by the system
software. Its HS488 mode results in data transfer rates greater than 5.9
Mbytes/s for both read and write operations.

The GPIBENET kit controls IEEE 488 instruments from a HP 9000 Series 700
Ethernet host with access to a TCP/IP network. Users can program GPIBENET
controllers from driver-equipped host HP workstations anywhere on
Internet, a worldwide scientific, research, and educational network.
Scientists and engineers can also use the GPIBENET to share GPIB
peripherals between many networked users.

About NI-488.2M Software

Both the EISA-GPIB and GPIB-ENET include the National Instruments NI-488.2M
software for HP-UX. The NI-488.2M software is a multitasking version of
the company's NI-488.2 GPIB software. The NI-488.2M software has
high-level functions that transparently handle GPIB protocol and data
transfers as well as low-level functions for maximum flexibility and
configurability. Application programs written with the NI-488.2M software
are portable across many computer platforms and operating systems.
