MERIDIAN DATA ENHANCES CD ROM NETWORK ACCESS FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT-BASED
ENVIRONMENTS

Announces Simultaneous CD Access andNetwork Client Support for Windows 95

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (July 31, 1995) -- Meridian Data, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:
MDCD) today introduced CD Net v1.0 for Windows NT, the first Windows
NT-based client/server software to enable simultaneous CD ROM access
across heterogeneous networks. The new Meridian multiuser software
eliminates the current restriction of one CD per drive letter and allows
network administrators to establish enterprise-wide standards for sharing
CD resources in Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation environments.
Users can access up to 56 CDs through a single drive letter or group
several CDs to different drive letters. Meridian's unique CD networking
architecture enables each disc to be seen as a simple subdirectory under a
common file structure, eliminating competition for scarce drive letters.

"As an increasing amount of important corporate data is delivered on CD
ROM, accessing and managing CD resources becomes a key business
information issue," said Gianluca Rattazzi, Meridian's president and chief
executive officer. "By providing the ability to share CD collections as a
network resource-as easily as printers are shared today-CD Net for Windows
NT enables companies to increase workforce productivity dramatically while
eliminating sneaker net. "Meridian's CD Net v1.0 for Windows NT enables
network administrators to manage CD ROM resources easily. The
administrative tools include disc access security for greater control over
titles and usage metering which can reduce licensing costs.

Network Software Support for Windows 95Meridian's CD Net for Windows NT
connects easily to network clients running the anticipated Microsoft
Windows 95, as well as Windows for Workgroups, Windows 3.x, MS-DOS and IBM
OS/2. The company's recently announced CD Net Plus v6.0 software-with
Windows-native client tools for mapping an unlimited number of CDs per
drive letter over Novell NetWare LANs also supports Windows 95. "We're
pleased to see Meridian addressing the issues of CD ROM access for
enterprise environments," said Mike Nash, Microsoft group product manager,
Windows NT Server. "Fortune 1000 companies running Windows NT Server
software can now benefit from concurrent sharing of large CD databases.

"Broad Network SupportNew CD Net for Windows NT is compatible with
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation and Windows NT Server. It supports a
variety of networks including Microsoft LAN Manager, TCP/IP, IBM LAN
Server, OS/2 Warp Connect and Novell NetWare IPX/SPX for easy integration
into enterprise computing environments. "We accelerated our CD Net for
Windows NT product development cycle to meet the growing interest in our
large installed CD networking user base," said Richard Krueger, Meridian's
vice president of marketing. "We found that approximately 60 percent of
our CD Net installations had plans that included support for Windows NT."

Pricing and Availability

Available mid-August, CD Net for Windows NT software has a suggested list
price (U.S.) of $1995 for an unlimited-user server license. CD Net for
Windows NT is also available integrated with Meridian's award-winning CD
ROM application network servers. The CD Net 914 network system, configured
with seven CD ROM drives, has a starting suggested list price of $12795;
the system can be expanded to 14 CD ROM drives (8.4GB). For higher
capacity requirements, Meridian's CD Net 956 network system provides
simultaneous access to up to 56 CD ROM drives (33.6GB).
